Hello,

I am in love with Rimowa Topas line. I've travelled with my cases and they do extremely well. Very little scratches and moves extremely smoothly. I am curious as to how many travelers use Rimowa Topas and how and where did you get reasonable prices? I am interested in purchasing the Topas cosmetic case and the carryon in Topas Gold.

My carryon and 26in were purchased from a retailer for $1425 for both and I thought that was very reasonable. Did I get a good price? If not, where can I do better?

Thanks for all your insight!

After trying bulkier units from Brookstone and Lewis&Clark, I've finally found a compact universal adapter, made by Kikkerland. It's about 1/4 the size of other adapters: http://www.google.com/products?q=kik...travel+adapter. Clever design, the two pieces snap together in many different configurations. A bit delicate due to the light weight, but that's a necessary tradeoff.

I suggested the Mulholland Bros. Longhorn bag:
http://shopmulholland.com/product.ht...uct=AL1047-LAR

There are ways to get that under $800. And I use that mainly as an example of the kind of bag he is looking for.

What's your favorite bag of this kind? Doesn't matter if you own one or would just like to own it.

Thanks,

I am a frequent leisure traveller to all parts of the world. I am going to Japan at the end of next week and am considering upgrading to a Briggs and Riley bag as a result of the advice on this forum and from a couple of work colleagues who really rate the Briggs and Riley range.

I am generally not very good at packing light and tend to bring laptop, ipod, camera, guidebooks, books and a change of footwear so that I can do a lot of walking, hiking etc and have generally struggled with weight limits of 20 kg/44 IB for checked in luggage on European airlines even with my current samsonite bag which weighs 3.5 kg / 7 .7 IB. I also need to have smart changes of clothes.

The big disadvantage of the Briggs and Riley bags is that they are heavy.
I am leaning towards purchasing a Briggs and Riley zip expandable U524X ( 24 inch bag which weighs 12.5 IB/5.6 kg) rather than U527X (27 inch bag which weighs 13.5 IB/ 6.1kg) so that I am more likely to keep in line with airline checked baggage limits. I am concerned that the U527x will be more likely to put me over the limits as it weighs more and I am more likely to pack more stuff with the larger bag. For a similar reason I have gone for the zip expandable rather the one touch range from Briggs and Riley.
Will the U524X bag be large enough? I would be very grateful if forum members could advise whether I am making the right choice?

I am considering purchasing online from Altman luggage in the USA as they charge $299 with no shipping charge to the UK as against a price of £299 from luggage stores/online in the UK. Has anybody had experience of using Altman in USA to deliver in Europe as regards time to deliver and reliability?

Thanks in advance for your help.

REVISED TO EXPAND QUERY TO INCLUDE THE TUMI 3-IN-1 (#22017) I've been searching for 30 minutes and can't find the answer so time for a new post

I am considering the Tumi Alpha 22" expandable (non-framed) (http://www.tumi.com/alpha/internatio...able-carry-on/)

At least one reviewer on ebags says it won't fit in the overhead unless its turned sideways. That is a non-starter for me. I typically fly AA MD-80 and need to be able to fit it wheels-first in the bins on the larger side (CDE?). I guess "wheels last" would also work but would be less desirable due to lack of handle on that end.

Can anybody with this exact bag tell me their experience with fitting it in the overhead (preferably but not limited to the MD80)?

thanks

Little compressed towel pellets that expand to a 9 x 10 towel with a bit of water. Kind of like having packets of towlettes around, but they are larger and way more sturdy. I haven't seen these in years (granted, I have not been looking for them either) but they are great in the car or carry on for a clean up when you need something stronger then a disposable towlette.

8 of them (not 100!) for $9 at Magellans.

After trying one GoToob (it was awesome - truly a perfect travel container) I ordered a set of them. However, 2 of my hair products (Biosilk and Moroccan Oil) had a terrible reaction with these containers. I wrote to the company to ask what causes this, and they sent me 2 new replacements immediately. Fabulous customer service, they definitely went above and beyond in the way they handled this.

However, the reason I originally wrote to them is to see if they had another container that would work with these hair products, and they don't. I love the design of the GoToobs and hate that every other travel container has leaked when used over time. I'd appreciate any recommendations, thanks.

I assume it's new, since there are no reviews on amazon yet. Does anyone have an opinion of it? Can you be confident it will be allowed as carry on everywhere in the world? Wheeled carry-ons are tricky, since sometimes the wheels and handle can make them over the carry on size limit. I like the other Eagle Creek products I've gotten.

The eBags Weekender is 20% off today and I thought I would order one. I called their customer service to see the shipping and delivery costs.
What a surprise.

The number we are talking about aren't huge but I do find them dishonest.

The Weekender is on sale for $55.99. On the website is says that shipping to Canada for an item up to $75 is $16 Canadian.

When I called to order, they said the charge is $26.83. How can that be, I asked, when you say clearly on the site that it is $16.
Well, it seems they charge an extra fee to ship it to Michigan from where they then say it is $16 to ship to Canada. But nowhere on the website is that mentioned.

Then they charge Provincial Sales Tax. I have never heard of a mail order house outside of my province charging PST. GST, or federal sales tax, yes. But charging PST is, in my opinion, unethical for a product not purchased in my province.
If they have a cross border provincial outlet from where they ship it then I would understand, but in that case they shouldn't tack on the extra shipping.

Lastly, today's Visa exchange rate for the bag would have been $58.99 Canadian and they were quoting me $67.07 Canadian. That's a pretty good mark up!

In the end I did not order because it left a bad taste in my mouth. Their total to me would have been $102.62 when it should have been $77.95! That is more than $24 on a $78 item.

Any Canadians ordering from eBags should be aware of these exorbitant hidden charges.

New here to FlyerTalk. I'm looking to buy a carry on garment bag for pretty low cost.

I'm trying to decide whether or not the Tumi T-Tech Adventure Garment Bag is worth the extra $30-40 bucks over the Samsonite Cordoba Garment Bag (links below).
Obviously I think the Tumi is better quality but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money and whether or not it'd be too small. Thoughts?
