Hoping someone can help with rental cars at DCA. I got the impression from one site I was looking at (can't remember which one) that some of the rental companies are located in the airport and have the cars in an adjacent garage while others are offsite requiring a shuttle bus. Is this true? If so, which companies have pick up and drop off of vehicles within the parking garage adjacent to the terminal? Thanks in advance.

Any ideas as to which makes the most sense? Is the 66 minute travel time shown on the 5A schedule realistic?

I live in the suburbs of the DC Metro area and i work from home as a consultant so I have a lot of free time. In the spirit of extroversion and hospitality I wanted to let my fellow flyertalkers know that if you are from out of town planning to be in the DC area and need a ride from the airport, or sightseeing company or even a place to stay, just drop me a PM. I have a guest room, but also two dogs, so if you're not a person who likes pets, chez jenni may not work for you. But then, hey there is always dinner and sightseeing right? i need someone to practice more of my gourmet 4 course dinners on. :D

I will be traveling from Switzerland to Washington (IAD) and then SFO soon. I was wondering whether I will be able to check mu lugguage all the way through to SFO. If so, will I need to pick up my luggage before clearing customs, and "re-check" my luggage to SFO at the United Airlines counter in the main terminal?

Thank you for your help.

Hi All,

The title says it all. I will be attending a conference in DC. My conference registration included a 2-night stay at the Marriott Wardman Park. As I am flying in a day early, I'm on my own for the first night. Since the Marriot is priced out of my budget for this trip, I will be staying in a different property that first night. Would my fellow FTers familiar with the DC area recommend the Westin City Center or Churchill? With the Westin, I will be earning my SPG points and have the consistency I have come to expect and love - Heavenly bed, service, etc. With the Churchill, I can say I stayed in a really cool, historic place - or could I? That's how they make it sound online, but I can't really find much history about it from third sources. All things being equal - relatively same downtown DC location, same price ($127 vs. $125 all in), am I better off going for the consistency and points or the "historic gem?"

Thanks in advance!

I was visiting my brother in Maryland this weekend and we chose to spend today (Sunday 11/1) in D.C. To accomplish this we drove to New Carrollton Metro Station and rode the train in.

Unfortunately, between Cheverly and Stadium-Armory they're running on the Orange Line on a single track. This meant 15 minutes sitting outside Cheverly going inbound and then 25 sitting outside Minnesota Avenue on the outbound. The worst part was that during our sit on the way back to New Carrollton the conductor kept saying "we're only waiting for two trains to pass us" and a grand total of six passed us.

I am a regular IAD flier (Last four years) and have been a less frequent traveler from that hub since the 80's. The C/D concourse where United has its mainline flights has always been called a temporary concourse and its maintenance really shows that. It has been refreshed but it is NOT a world class terminal by any stretch of the imagination.

With the recently failed AeroTrain tests:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...102202492.html

and the fact that even once the train is installed it still does not address United's future home, is there a published plan or is United just moving in with Continental?

Any reading available on the AeroTrain claims that it will terminate at concourse A and then have the ability to be expanded to include a future concourse C.

Anyway you look at this, United seems left in the cold. Are any of you 'in the know' flyertalkers aware of any future United IAD plans and are we ever going to get a United terminal at IAD?
