I've been trying to get a real person on the line for over 1 week-calling several times per day. I get everything from "Please stay on the line, your call is important to us to Due to an unexpected number of calls we are not accepting anymore (or some such thing). Please try back in a few hours.
Tried emailing and get an automated email reply.
Yikes-I think they need to re-look at their new structure.

The agent stated that WJ does not offer passengers to be standby (on earlier fligths?).

The 24 hr rule refers to a refund (minus the penalty fees) directly to the customer - after the 24 hr from the time of ticket purchase has elapsed, the money would be credited to the passenger, to be used within 1 year.

PS-If one has to change the ticket after buying it (for whatever reason), does WJ (like AC) allow a full refund of the ticket, even without a penalty being charged?

Over the weekend (Fri night, Sat morning, and Sat afternoon) I hung up after being on the phone for 30 minutes - I then went to the local airport (YOW) - which is only 10 minutes by car from our home - and dealt with the issues (of-rechanging the flight).
The agent was surprised that I could not get through to a telephone reservations agent - she said that 100 had just been hired!

So a friend of mine recently was subject to an aircraft going tech at the gate and was bumped off his most recent WS flight. Now to their credit, the sabre problems (based on the limited discussion I've had with him) have subsided and he wasn't complaining about an hour plus on hold, so that's a good sign.

What struck me as odd, however, was his claim that while he was bumped onto the next flight of the day, it was the airport that didn't approve the bump which apparently screwed up his itinerary. Now this sounds unbelieveable to me: I can't understand how the airport authority would have any sort of say as to who can fly on what flight, but I wanted to bring it up with the WS experts.

In the case of mechanical irrops, does the airport have anything at all to do with rescheduling pax onto a different flight, or was someone making up the rules as they go? Anyone have any insights?

Seemingly because of "hiccups" in the new Sabre system, the lineups yesterday afternoon at YYC were ridiculous. There had to be at least 200 people in line to check bags ("Self-check") and 150 in the "need-to-check-in" lines. I talked to the CSA who checked me in and she said it was a crazy day (and has been like that all week in the afternoons) - and all because of the new system.

I've never seen lines like that - the lines stretched all the way to the charter checkin counters at the very end of the concourse. Crazy. My wife, son, and I arrived at 4:15 to check in for our 6:10 to YOW, and we only got though security at 5:45. Made for a pretty stressful travel experience!!

That all being said - the CSAs were fantastic and in good spirits, even though I'm sure they were dealing with abuse from frustrated passengers all day. Good on the CSAs for doing such a good job with such a painful situation to deal with. (our CSA managed to get us an extra seat for our baby even though she wasn't sure how and it took her 10 minutes to force the computer to do it... great job!!!)

new computer reservations system is giving major headaches to WestJet Airlines Ltd., but the carrier vows to work out the bugs, saying the technology opens the door to partnerships with foreign carriers.

Since WestJet introduced the SabreSonic system on Oct. 17, its website has crashed twice, leading to complaints from consumers frustrated by long waits to get through to the carrier's call centre, either to book flights or make changes and cancellations. There have also been 40-minute delays at airports because of various computer-related glitches, including problems originating from the Sabre Travel Network.

WestJet chief executive officer Sean Durfy sent an e-mail to customers on Oct. 23, apologizing for the "slowdowns" in service - a contrite message also posted on the airline's website and still displayed this week as the first screen that consumers see.

In an interview yesterday, Mr. Durfy said the short-term pain will pass, and the Calgary-based carrier is looking forward to the benefits of having new technology that interacts with the computers of foreign airlines.

"When the system stabilizes, it will give us a bunch more flexibility," he said.

I believe that this is an honourable and reasonable apology for the problems encountered to date as well as a viable solution (a buddy of mine advised that he received a response within 60min for the email he sent to place a reservation...as well as had a phone call back from Gregg Saretsky, so, this shows a willingness to keep pax in the fold).

Had a return portion of a flight for Oct 26 from YYZ-YYC. Ticket was booked through call center as was utilizing credit from previously cancelled flight. I had to change the flight Monday aftenroon but wasn't able to get through to call center (unexpected volume of calls so not taking any more....sounds like the Alberta H1N1 clinics!) and couldn't change online as new system couldn't find the reservation.

I booked AC instead and did not show for my WJ flight. Tried every day to get through to WJ with success finally yesterday. Explained the situation and requested the value of missed flight be reinstated. Was told that wasn't possible and it wasn't westjet's fault my plans aren't set in stone and changed at the last minute. So because westjet screwed up their system implementation and is inundated with phone calls, I lost the value of my WJ ticket and had to pay additional $$$ for AC ticket.

This is customer service???????
