Hi FB board -

Trying to book a complex itinerary (originating outside the US/EU) involving an overnight in AMS to take advantage of the 24hr rule.

Normally would use Orbitz, but was having some trouble - it kept giving an error at the last stage. (I double checked flyaow.com and saw availability in the class I wanted on all four legs)

So I called KLM 24hr res. in Amsterdam.

A very friendly woman told me that 3 segments were fine, but one of them was sold out. Period. "Even in business class. Not even for waiting list."
Her exact words.

I double checked flyaow and still saw lots of 9s including E9 - the class I was looking for.

So I went to Expedia, called it up, and booked it at pretty close to the fare I expected.

Worried for a second while it said "pending check back within 24hours" but then 2 minutes later I have a PNR, a ticket number (oddly starting with 012 - NWA, right?) and when I go to KLM.com it calls the res. confirmed.

Weird, huh? A system glitch? But where?

I think I'll wait a day before booking priceline room, but is this normal for KLM?

Should I be worried?

Thanks!

It closed before October, but 1000 miles never come. Actually I sent an email to FB before, and they replied: we will check this, but you should provide evidence (for I did participate or they did have this survey whatever...).

So far, no evidence, no miles.

I'm curious how many plats FB lost in 2009.

In 2009 I've flown 64k miles on KLM, earning 35k status miles. Just returned from a 2week trip, checked my balance and I made Gold this year because of the Double miles promotion.

My result: Plat in 2009, Gold in 2010 because of promotion (Silver without promotion)

Which frequent flyer would be the best option? Yes I know it is not an easy question but any information would be greatly appreciated. It would appear that Skymiles have more hotel partners so I could top up the account that way.

Dear all,

I am totally confused with KLM/ FB ... now FB is acting beyond my understanding!

Last summer, I did a flight DFW to AMS. At DFW, I was offered to upgrade to Business class with a mix of miles and cash. I declined and instead, I upgraded my M fare to business class with only cash (370USD). At the beginning, FB only shown 75% of miles. But now...0% FB miles. I did contact FB but they said I hold a D fare (award ticket). I still have my Passenger receipt that show the price I did pay for upgrade and " Additional collection from M to D" in the text box.

How can I had a M fare and I did pay more and get 0% miles is beyond me!

Please advise.

PS DFW-AMS KLM Business service was on par with all majors (rare). It was a great (lot of sleep) and value for money.

AFKL Taxes going up again ??

So the AF-KL Q2 results are in: a loss of 147 mio EUR, against a profit of 27 mio EUR in the same Qter last year.

In a press release AFKL is blaming the economy and now also especially its fuel hedges for these bad financial results.

Thing is, I don't get it though.

First AFKL impose abusive fuel surcharges, because of rising fuel prices. It later turns out that they were hedged anyway against this development in the oil price. Iow: Pax are taking the brunt, AFKL running away with our money, concluding some to say that the govt. maybe ought to tax these outrageous "taxes" (which are pure revenues for AFKL).

Then, after the oil price goes down again, AFKL are one of the only airlines groups to maintain such high (abusive) fuel surcharges, because - they claim - they are now suffering heavy losses because of some "unlucky" fuel hedges. Iow: Pax are taking the brunt.

Then, after they have experienced 4 quarters of heavy losses, with a drop in yields, a drop in capacity and a drop in occupancy numbers, they still try to blame unfortunate fuel hedging for the massive losses they are suffering.

How dare AFKL continue to blame their unfortunate fuel hedging policies if the pax have been taking the brunt all along ????

How stupid do they think we are ??

High time for the top management to admit to their gigantic failures, especially in the marketing and sales field. Also, network cuts were too heavy, plus soft and hard product are still on a gliding slope. The utter mismanagement of the Flying Blue program is another example.

AF-KL blaming the bad financial results on the global economic downturn is too easy: many international airlines (especially those with attractive FFPs) are profitable.

AF-KL blaming the bad financial results on the fuel prices is - at least to me as fuel surcharge paying pax - adding insult after injury! Just think of the ludicrous amounts of taxes one has to pay (on top of the already increased/devaluated/more-expensive-to-get mileages) to get a flight reward with AFKL. ... It's a clear rip-off! And yet, AFKL are now blaming their failures on the fuel price, after 3 quarters of blaming the economy for their lack of results.

Time for someone to step in, to get rid of the present AF-KL management.

They are the only ones responsible.

And they are the only ones to blame !!!

.

First and foremost, I am grateful that this program exists! Its definitely an exceptional value and differentiates AF/KL from all other programs.

From a user friendly standpoint, it would make the program far more beneficial if each new Promo Awards announcement was made with one month instead of one day's notice.

For example, the next batch of Promo Awards will be annonced on Nov 30 for Dec/Jan travel. As a practical matter, the lack of notice makes it difficult to redeem awards the first 7-10 days of December with no planning window.

Instead, if Dec/Jan Promo Awards were announced on Oct 31, then members could easily take advantage of the FULL two months worth of awards being offered, with sufficient planning time.

Be grateful for the consideration and direct feedback from FB!

Thanks!!

Am in USA, the US/AF site does not allow booking flight originating in Vietnam.

The Vietnam AF site allows me to book, even has a promotion HAN-BKK RT all-in @ $144.01. But, when I pay, the charge is authorized on my CapitalOne card (my credit limit is reduced), I get a record locator, but no ticket is issued and I get a message "...due to the payment not having been validated online please contact the AirFrance call centre within 24 hours."

If I call the call center (US), I'm told they can't process the payment - I have to call Vietnam! They also tell me that they will only accept a credit card issued in Vietnam! Web support tells me that the only way someone in the US can make the reservation is by phone and pay the phone fee ($20) and not receive the promotion ($10off) making it more than 20% higher cost!
Is this correct?

For travel BKK-HAN, on the Thailand AF site, I'm able to use the same credit card and receive a ticket, EVEN THOUGH web support (in US) tells me that the Thailand site will only accept credit card issued in Thailand!
Then, they try and tell me that even though I have confirmation and e-ticket number, it may be canceled when they find out I used a US card on the Thailand site??!!

Does anyone here know the ins and outs of this crazy AF system?
Factors that may be involved here -
CapitalOne does not support Verified by Visa which AF tries to use.
On the Thailand site/ticket, the passenger & cardholder are the same.
On the Vietnam site/ticket attempt, the passenger & cardholder are different names.
