I expect to be in SG with family (spouse and 4 y/o child) in the last week of December 2009. Whilst I could stay with extended family and/or friends, I'd prefer a hotel or serviced apartment. Some questions:

a. How much should I expect to pay (am not a budget traveler, but am certainly not thinking of 5* properties).
b. I believe there might/will be surcharges in the last week of December, due to this being peak season - what is the level of surcharge like?
c. What are the actual options for hotels and serviced apartments, and which is better, ie hotels or SAs?
d. Finally, suggestions for hotels/SAs?

Am also open to meeting fellow FTers while in SIN, gives me a good chance to network.

Thanks for your advice! Cheers!

Hi there

I'll need to get a new suit for some weddings I'll be attending next year and was thinking of getting one tailored in SG as I'll be over there over CNY 2010 (2-3 wk). Can anybody recommend one?

What I'm looking for is good craftsmanship and someone willing to work on my schedule (I presume most places will be closed over CNY); it'll be great if the tailor has good material in stock so I wouldn't have to go elsewhere to shop for cloth.

A few of my friends have pointed me elsewhere in Asia, but since my travel schedule is quite inflexible, Singapore is pretty much my only choice if I wanted to get a suit tailored for a good price. Its either that or something off-the-shelf near home. Appreciate any help I can get.

I am taking the ferry Bintan-to-Singapore and then flying out from Singapore airport. Arriving into Singapore by ferry on a Friday afteroon. Should I schedule 4:30 hours or 2:10 hours between scheduled ferry arrival time and flight departure time? I realize the taxi distance is short, so my question is about possible delays due to bad weather and/or immigration formalities upon arrival by ferry.

I have a mid-sized duffle bag. In the US, it wouldn't be an issue at all. A couple of years ago when they cranked up the rules at LHR, it would have been too big. Just want to know what I'm dealing with here. Hoping not to check anything.
I'm *G, flying in Y on UA, for what it's worth.
(Oh, and yes, I searched the forum and looked at the Changi website.)

I'm thinking about taking the limousine transfer through the hotel which includes Jetquay service (Quayside) and a Mercedes S-Class transfer to the hotel (Bentley unavailable :(). The cost is SGD 245. Also, I'm flying F, but I guess F service ends the moment you exit the plane. Any experiences, opinions, recommendations?

Hi Guys,

it's ceejay from Germany here. At the end of the year I will be staying in Singapore with some friends for a week before I return to Germany again.

I am going to stay at my friend's house for the whole week but I was wondering if you guys could recommend a nice hotel where I could stay with my friends and some of their friends and have a little gathering for around 10 people of whom maximum 5 will stay overnight. It will not be a huge party where we are going to trash the room, we will just eat and have some drinks, catching up about the old times.

Do you have any idea where I can find something like that, if possible for under 400SGD per night.

Thanks in Advance

Since my question concerns options on several airlines serving Singapore I am posting it here rather than on one of the individual airline boards.

I am based in Madrid, and to date all of my flying has been to North America (CO Plat) or within Europe. I now will have to start travelling to Singapore and later, to Australia.

I’d be in Business class, and in First if the price is right (+/- 2500 GBP r/t). My first criterion is comfort and ability to sleep on the flights. Second is food and wine (no dry airlines!). Third is points / miles, since I am going to be Plat on CO anyway, just as I have been for the past 8 years.

Basically I have a choice of going first to London and flying from there, or taking Thai or Qatar from Madrid.

I do like the idea of doing the return long haul from Asia right to Madrid and then going straight home, rather than wait around in London for a connecting flight, then another two-hour flight to Madrid.

But I have many more options from London.

Any suggestions based on the above criteria would be appreciated.

Also, suggestions for a good travel agent for these routings (Trailfinders, et al) would be appreciated, too.

Many thanks!
