I love the Virgin brand but my loyalty is going elsewhere due to inability to redeem miles

Hi!

I am looking at flying to Cuba in May 2010 in Premium Economy. From what I can gather, the aircraft will be a B744. Other than for aircraft swaps, is there any chance/plan for the premium Economy cabins to be upgraded to the LHR-style leather seats? I've read on a couple of forums that on the lower deck there are the 'wave' seats, and on the upper deck, the original seats - is that true, or are they all the same (if the same, which style)? Whats the IFE like? The deal I can get in very good for PE (K Class), but there are no offers for UC - if I turn up at the airport on the day and request to pay for an upgrade, what sort of cost would this be, if permissable at all. What about at HAV? Is this route very busy? (I know at the moment there are at least 9 seats in every class) I'm aiming to depart on 2 May, returning on 16 May (off peak?). Anyone got any HAV-specific anecdotes?

Thanks for any comments/advice.

Hi

I am planning a UC trip next year with my gf and have a VS Amex White with the £15k threshold for compaanion ticket. The VS Amex Black being half that. Now as I'm half way through my year and I'm over the £7500, can I switch to Black and qualify for the companion ticket ?

I know that I can using my BA Amex, does VS have the same policy ?

As I'm relativly new to VS companion tickets, I got confused by the website which gave an indication that you could only use miles for redemption, while the T&C says you can use cash...so does Companion Ticket apply to both buying with cash and buying with miles ?

I'm curious if it has anything to do with the lack of slot available at LHR for a YYZ flight that has been the primary obstacle? They have to operate out of LHR to make YYZ viable (to compete with BA & AC) as the previous attempt out of LGW yielded poor results right? Can someone shed some light?

In recent months, my family and I have had many interactions with FC customer service - via email, phone and fax. All interactions were handled very unsatisfactorily by a bunch of really incompetent staff. :td:

1) My wife signed up for a new FC account on the FC website that offered 500 bonus miles on sign up: http://www.virginatlantic.com/en/gb/...b4.jsp?ad=AFF1 After a while, the bonus miles weren't credited. Sent FC an email from the website. Someone replied the following day to say that the promo had expired on 26 August, so she's not entitled to the bonus miles - which is complete nonsense, since the promo exists to this day on the FC website and there's absolutely no mention of deadline. My wife disputed the response immediately. Only after one month later, someone else replied to apologise for earlier wrong response, and only then adjusted the bonus points.

2) I sent an email through FC website sometime ago to clarify whether the online shopping bonus 500 miles is awarded only to the first purchase transaction on condition that it's greater than GBP 25, or awarded onetime only to any transaction greater than GBP 25 (which may not may not be the first purchase). IIRC the terms weren't too clear when the promo first started in the summer. Seven (yes, seven!) weeks later, some idiot replied "yes sir, you're eligible to earn FC miles for all your online shopping done after 10 June". It's obvious that she hadn't even bothered to read my email properly; I'm inclined to believe that comprehending a simple question was way beyond her intellect.

3) And today I called FC customer service in HKG to follow up on a fax instruction sent earlier in the week. The conversation went like this:
Me: Has the fax been received and acted upon?
VS: Which number did you fax it to?
Me: 2537 4544
VS: Were you trying to fax it to FC?
Me: Yes, that's the FC fax number as stated on your HKG website: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/hk...ctus/index.jsp
VS: But that's the wrong number! You should've faxed it to [another number not published on FC website] instead!
Me: If it's the wrong number, why is it published as the HKG FC fax number on your website?
VS: That's the sales department fax number. Not for FC.
Me: How am I even supposed to know that your published number is incorrect and to know of this alternative, secret unpublished number???

Frankly, I give up! Just waiting for the soonest opportunity to burn all my gold family account VS miles, then have nothing more to do with them.

I am a VS Amex card holder (US) and find the spend on it useful in building my miles, plus the Tier points help me maintain my Gold FF status.

IF I were to switch, what is the BA equivalent card - not just a card with miles, but a card that helps you get tier points. (or whatever they are called with BA!)

I have taken advantage of the new Chase/BA Visa card offer, with its 100,000k joining miles, but.. Tier Points?

why bother? well, VS mileage upgrade policy is so insanely tight you cant do anything with anything but a full fare ticket, ($$$) even if you have miles coming out of your wazzo. kind of pisses me off. Was looking at the AA mileage rewards site - and that is a model of clarity and how to do it. It's time to look around, and see what other options I have, besides endlessly accruing VS miles that they barely let you use.
