Why do they do that? And... which one is better? :) As a SEN, can I choose which one to go to or do I have to use the one that matches my flight?

Or are there other lounges I could use in AMS as a SEN when flying LH/LX?

Dear fellow FT'ers,

I'm faced with a bit of a dilemma. I booked a flight back in July to fly ZRH-MIA on Dec. 23 and back on Jan. 9. However, I now find myself with some unexpected free time in December, and would like to fly down to the lovely Florida sun a bit earlier than Dec. 23...so I thought I'd just pay the usual CHF 200 penalty and be done with it. My ticket is in economy, a so-called economy-saver ticket booked in fare class W. It seems, however, that my particular fare basis (although in W) is extremely restrictive and doesn't allow ANY changes whatsoever. The weird thing is that the ticket cost me CHF 1,070...so although a good fare for xmas to MIA, it's not exactly the cheapest of fares, either. Anyways, I've called two different calling centres (in Europe and the US) and also went by the Swiss office in Zurich, but nobody could help me.

I even offered to pay CHF 400 to change...and nothing. Now I understand fare rules, but is there absolutely no way of over-riding them? Is there anybody that has any experience with this or have any other ideas? As I'm willing to pay up to CHF 400, it would be a win-win situation for LX and me. Plus, the flight I want to change to on Dec. 15 is only halfway full compared to my almost-sold out flight on Dec. 23; I checked seat map on expertflyer.com.

For what it's worth, I just made SEN this week...don't know if that can help. I mentioned that to the agent today, to no avail... :(

Thanks for any ideas!

I'm flying Swiss for the first time next month (JFK-ZRH-GVA, and later LHR-ZRH-JFK) in C on the A333 and would like to know how Swiss allocates desirable seats.

I'm currently in 5A for my JFK-ZRH flight, and I'm obviously happy to to be up in the mini-cabin but I'm also one of few business passengers without direct aisle access. I like window seats though so ideally I'd like to be in one of the K seats. 5K is taken on this flight, though according to ExpertFlyer, 4K is available but blocked for elites.

In the event no HON/SEN chooses this seat in the coming weeks, at what point will it become available to general passengers? Is it at online checkin and does this happen 24 hours from departure?

If online check-in does open up at T-24, is it absolutely necessary that *I* be the one who checks in? I'll actually be flying SYD-LAX at that point in time and if my assumptions above are correct, plan to give my flight details to a family member to complete online check-in for me. I don't actually need to print anything out, do I? My bags will be checked through from SYD all the way to GVA so I had planned to simply visit a check-in desk at JFK and get them to print me a BP. Is this a reasonable plan?

Please excuse what may be rather simple questions, not only have I never flown Swiss, the last time I was in Europe Swiss didn't even exist, so I'm well in the dark here. :)

Thanks for your help.

I have never traveled LX C before. Is my understanding correct the old C in a 343 C seat is basically like LH C, meaning angled flat recline. Its not the dreaded LX A300-200 recliner is it. Please compare it to the LH C product that I am familiar with.

Also, we have 3 hours in ZRH. I have heard the LH C lounge is outside security. Is this correct and if so is there any alternative. I have an AMEX Platinum. Thanks.

From the latest Priority Pass update, it seems that the Bellevue lounge in Terminal E is closed for refurbishment and will reopen as the Panorama Lounge on 2 December.

Alternative arrangements are made to give access to PP customers 'at the lounge next door' - not sure which lounge this is  - until 31 Nov.

On 1 Dec only, no lounge access but a 10 CHF voucher.

Anyone have any news on the refurbishment? I've always found the Bellevue to be a very pleasant lounge. One of the better in the PP scheme. It would be a shame if it's 'enhanced'.

I had a VDB from ZRH-BHX last week, and was offered 200 GBP for my troubles. This came in the form of an prepaid Easycash Maestro card, loaded with 383 CHF (approx 226 GBP at today's exchange rate - presumably the extra was to cover any forex fees I might face ^ ).

I had imagined that there would be punitive charges for using the card outside Switzerland, with Easycash and the various intermediaries taking their juicy cuts. I emailed Easycash on Saturday, and had a response by 0903 on Monday ^

Pleased to report that I was able to withdraw 225 GBP from an ATM in the UK today, and that my online Easycash account now shows a balance of 59 rappen. I think I'll let them keep that!

So to anyone in the future - no need to bust a gut to withdraw the cash at a Swiss ATM. You'll get excellent value for money abroad too.

Finally, I'm pleasantly surprised that Swiss is willing to offer so much for a VDB. They would only have had to offer 250 EUR (~ 377 CHF) for an IDB. Don't tell anyone, but I would have volunteered for less :D
