I called the call centre and was routed to India of course, many a times. Though the agents there insisted that there are still a few SIngaporean agents left but I'd just have to take my chance when I call. I was pressed for time, so I felt that I should give them a chance.

I have a fully flexible Business Class ticket from SIN to FRA which was booked to depart on 21st Nov. I called to change it to Jan 7th.

The agent said that the change will cost me $75. I was shocked. I told her that my ticket stipulates that changes are permitted free of charge. I was advised that the change was because it was a 'service'. I told her that the SIngapore ION office told me earlier that my ticket can be changed without penalty and that there is no reissuing required and hence no fee - service or not.

I was then told that if I wanted to get the service 'free' then I should have contacted my travel agent in the USA. Which would be great but unfortunately on one of my earlier calls in Singapore when I called to make a BTC booking, the India office decided to localise the reservation and hence the travel agent in the USA no longer had any access to the booking. That BTC issue was an experience in itself ! The agent who took my call couldn't figure out what the code was for Hainanese Chicken Rice. She kept saying that there was no such special meal. Now is this the way SQ wants to treat their Business Class passengers?

Anyway, back to the issue of the changing of my reservation above... I hung up the phone and decided to take the afternoon off, and amidst pouring monsoon rains, braved a 30 min cab ride to the SQ office at the ION centre. There the agents were most helpful and they indeed confirmed to me that my business class ticket allows changes without charge and that there was definitely no fee of any kind involved. She apologised for the India call centre. But it was not up to her to apologise because she gave good professional service as SQ is famed for. It is the India office that is the problem.

Perhaps if SQ wants to 'save' money, then at least appoint the call centre closer to home where people know what asians like... eg Malaysia! Its close enough and SIngapore and Malaysian cultures are similar.

WHen I call the SQ call centre in SIngapore before, I had a great time from the very helpful agents who advised me on a variety of issues like which BTC dish she liked and why, and why I should choose it over others. Some offered their expertise when I asked if there was a Kopi Tiam food court at the airport to which they tell me that yes, at the basement at Terminal 3.. Now would the indian call centre be even able to tell me if there is a water fountain at the terminals?

You can train the agents to the best of SQ's knowledge.. but then again, at the end of the day, they are only doing their job. Unless they grew up in Singapore, they will not be able to provide the kind of service SQ is famed for in the air. Sadly, people's first experience with Singapore Airlines will be with India!!!

Then again, so are so many airlines' call centres these days...

Assuming there is availability, is there any chance at all of being moved to the earlier flight? Can TPE staff move me to this flight, or would it have to be done in SIN at the transfer desk?

Well I just hit SQ gold recently and I just wanted to resolve a longstanding (more than 1 year) problem with my account.

It turns out that everytime I try to book tickets through my agent they end up unable to find my name in SQ's system nevermind that my krisflyer ID is exactly the same one that SQ provided me with.

So I've been struggling with paper itineraries and booking information for the longest time just because the flights booked by my agent are unable to showup in my krisflyer account.

I have absolutely no idea what SQ, krisflyer or my agent has my name saved as but somehow SQ's apparently state of the art system refuses to just match my unique krisflyer ID number but chooses to insist on matching my name with all the commas, spaces and variations due to typos from various not so bright data entry personnel. Nevermind the fact that another person out of the billions of people in the world could have the exact same name as me.

But anyway yesterday I tried to iron out this annoying issue with SQ and experienced firsthand the atrocious customer service so many people have been commenting about. I think SQ wants you to fly their planes but just don't want to talk to you. The hold times for the call centres are probably measured in lightyears rather than minutes or hours. After a day of trying I gave up and asked my office's receptionist to continue trying. Sad to say she has still yet to successfully get through to any living breathing person.

Anyone working for SQ or who can give advice feel free to chime in. Depending on how this is resolved I will consider whether to continue earning points into my krisflyer acct for status renewal.

Dear all, I need advice on what to do.

I have been offered a platinum amex card by the supplier to my retail business. The card will cost $300 and accrue 1.5point-1 $aus for the first 250,000 then 1-1 afterward of amex points.

The supplier will charge the card for all of my invoices which will be approx 2,000,000 per annum. The catch is they will charge 0.85% surcharge plus gst.

The long and the short is that The extra cost is say $17500 plus gst and I can get a benefit of 2,125,000 points a year. Or I can transfer them to $21,250 of travel vouchers but I would be liable for fringe benefits tax (or have to make an employee contribution and lose the gst component)

I was intending to go ahead with the deal as I understood I could transfer to QFF and then use it for family members to travel extensively.

Apparantly this card won't transfer to QFF and they have suggested using Singapore Kris Fkyer which is a 1-1 transfer. The alternative are Asia Miles Cathay, Thai and Malaysian and a couple of others. The transfer rates for the others vary as do the redemption rates.

My questions are: I have no idea of ease of redemptions with Singapore and its Star Alliance partners. I have no specific dates for travel and can be flexibile. Will I easily be able to get flights. Would I be able to acheive good value for the effort involved given the points required?

I live in Brisbane and would travel to Europe and the Americas to use the points.

Does anyone know about the AsiaMiles with respect to redemptions and value similarly. I shall post a similiar message on its forum.

I can affford to spend the money on travel and I do have the time. If I could have transferred them to Qantas I calculated on being able to acheive much greater value on business class flights. The issues of Saver vs Standard and new planes having greater costs if doing my head in with Singapore Airlines so I am leaning towards not doing it or doing it with Cathay.

Please advise

Sometime ago, I have arranged a request to move my business from SQ to CX. I have sent everything to them regarding my travel patterns, statements, etc.

Just wondering whether or not I should take the offer from CX to be their Silver instead of Gold in SQ. Does it even worth it to go to CX at this point? The point being, that my travel patterns fell short of the 60K mark for CX Gold so they offered me Silver instead. Personally I feel bored flying with SQ and the only other option is CX. Any thoughts?

I haven’t booked the flights via the SQ Site so I am not able to pre select my seats while people who have booked via SQ can already do that. I can only choose 48 hours in advance via online check in. 3 out of the 4 flights a either full or almost full. Does anybody know if I will be able to choose any good seats (me and my 2 travel mates next to each other) when i check in exactly 48 hours in advance? Or will it be a problem for us to sit together

After several times flying on SQ 37/38, I had felt comfortable flying almost 16-18 hours non-stop at my usual 2x a year R/T with only some minor problems of warm cabin and cold pastries..

Yet, at one point I traveled on SQ 1/2, and it feels so different.. Having a 3 hour transit in HKG albeit in very early morning seems to have helped and enables me to relax after the SFO-HKG leg.. Not to mention the bridge from Domestic to International at SFO.

Now I'm contemplating on flying back on the 37/38 with its LAX based airport and the not so great connecting gates to TBIT.

So I guess I'm just asking whether or not if I have the time, to go back flying direct or indirect flight? How would you compare the experience in 37/38 to 1/2, 11/12, 15/16?

I usually don't buy tickets so far ahead of time, but the very low prices early this year from JFK-SIN convinced me to do so. I know suddenly have more time free at both ends of the trip (11/22-12/8) and would like to add more days in SIN on either end or both. I am flexible.

Of course, being a low fare, any changes are $200 (doable) plus any fare difference. Looking at my options, I would have to play at least twice the cost of the original ticket to make a change.

Does anyone know of any creative solutions? It looks like I have no option other than coughing up a lot of money or sticking with the original itinerary, but I thought I would ask the experts here to see if I am missing anything.
