I needed a flexible flight from SYD down to HBA so ended up buying a business fare via MEL. But my return was fixed and a very cheap red e-deal direct HBA-SYD was available.

As I was booking it occurred to me that the restrictive red e-deal conditions might impact on the flexibility of the outbound J segments, so I booked them on separate itins and paid the credit card fee twice.

Just wondering if that was wise or unnecessary?

Thanx, James

Newbie here - got a question for you all so we can plan a connection through Sydney with a 2 year old, having come from London via Singapore (must be mad:rolleyes:)

Are there any facilities airside that BA Club passengers have access to on arrival? We are debating trying to get a connecting flight straight through to Melbourne but as its our first time flying long haul with our son, we'd like to be able to shower, regarther our frazzled selves and then head onto Melbourne.

Any advice/info would be welcome
Qantas New Direct Canberra - Darwin Flights

Qantas yesterday announced its intentions to launch non-stop services between the nation’s capital and one of its old focus cities, Darwin, from the 1st of February next year.

This will become Qantas’ seventh direct non-stop route for Darwin, and will operate each Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the Canberra to Darwin sector performed in the morning and the return flight in the afternoon.

“We are also certain that this new service will further enable tourism development opportunities between the two cities,” said Rob Gurney, Qantas Group Executive Commercial.

“The new services are also timed to enable customers travelling on the Darwin-Canberra sector to connect with Qantas’ Canberra-Melbourne services.”

Qantas will launch the services in a two class, 168-seat Boeing B737-800 aircraft.

Already the move has been welcomed by Darwin Airport, who have attributed the new services to growth from the Northern Territory economy.

“The Darwin-Canberra market has grown strongly in recent years, and I am sure these new services will be welcomed by both Government and business travellers,” said Ian Kew, Darwin Airport CEO.

“These direct flights will reduce travel time by over one and a half hours in each direction, which is great news.”

Qantas increases capacity to Queenstown with extra service
Wednesday, 18 November 2009

Qantas Group Tuesday announced that it would be increasing capacity to Queenstown with a brand new year-round weekly service non-stop from Sydney.

This third Sunday weekly service will run alongside the existing Wednesday and Saturday services and will begin operations on the 21st of February, 2010.

“New Zealand, and Queenstown in particular, remains a very important market for Qantas, and we have seen demand increase to a level on our existing Sydney–Queenstown services that we can now offer customers a third service year round,” said Rob Gurney, Qantas Commercial Executive.

“We currently have extra capacity on the Sydney–Queenstown route during the peak summer and winter seasons which complements our existing two year-round services between these two markets.”

Hello,

I am SG with QF. I made an online booking from NZL for a roundtrip Red-E-Deal TT flight. It cost X. My work schedule changed, so I had to alter the booking. The online change function was unavailable for that booking so I called the 0800 number on the card. The agent said it will cost X+200 to effect the change to a week later.

I had looked up the cost of a fresh booking (also Red-E-Deal) for that 'week later' and it was the same or a smidgin more than my original fare. I told the agent that I had found this fare and asked if she could change to that. If not I would continue with that fresh booking and alter my original booking to a future date where the change cost was minimal.

After being on hold for a wee while, she came back to say that if I took a different outbound flight, my change costs would be X+25 (plus a fee of 50). I said fine. She said that an email will be sent within minutes to advise me of the changes (itinerary, fare and fee).

More than a week later, my cc has been charged X+200+50:mad: Emails came at the same time.

I called 0800 QF and explained the situation to the agent. I had the feeling she understood but responded that there is no record of the quote for X+50 and that the X+200 was correct and that was the end of the story. I protested and she said "You'll have to speak to my senior" . I said okay.

She came back to me and said "I can't transfer you unless you ask me to". And then proceeded to be very hostile and rude. I suggested to her that I could view it as a fraudulent transaction. She replied "We have no record of you having been quoted lesser, so this is the correct amount that you have been charged" in a surly manner.

I asked for the supervisor. Supervisor was apologetic - much more empathic and appeared to have understood my problem. Admitted that the +50 should not have been charged to a NZL originating call for a change to an NZL originating itinerary. (Apparently my call to AKL went through to HOB and +50 service fee is the practice in AUS).

What outcome should I strive for? I have my own expectations but wondered what you all thought? Also, what about the rudeness?? I thought CSAs were all about handling issues such as these?

BTW my cc company suggested I wait a period that I thought was reasonable for QF to sort it out and if I did not have a satisfactory outcome to let their disputes team handle it. ^

I am flying from MEL-HKG on the QF29 and I have a couple of boomerangs that I am taking home as pressies for friends. I would rather pack them in my carry-on rather than checking them in, but does anyone know if I would be allowed to take boomerang's on board the plane? (Soft suitcase and worried they would get broken - also, are boomerangs considered weapons still)?

I have looked through the Qantas website but I cannot find anything. Anyone know if these are ok to be taken on board or if I would have to check them?

Thanks so much :)

Anyway I was just wondering what the current state of Internet/Webmail aboard Qantas' A380 was? The last I heard, Qantas only announced webmail and webchat as working. However, from reading trip reports it seems like even this was not available. In the A380 FAQ there is the following "Full internet access will be available at a later date in 2009." It is now very late in 2009 and I haven't seen any other announcement from Qantas regarding internet aboard the A380?

So finally got around to getting QC membership at an awesome yearly rate!

Funnily enough I paid for the membership with my amex card and they sent out two complimentary invites (accidentally paid my last QF flight with my ANZ Gold, instead of my amex card) which I've passed onto a mate for him to enjoy.

Flying up to Brisbane from Melbourne at 1805 on QF632 and back home the next day, can't remember which one.

So how are the domestic QC's at Melbourne and Brisbane? Getting a little earlier to the airport on Friday to well give it a try :)

Not sure what class the fare is booked in but I travel with the army time to time and only get the full status credits and not the miles, not really a big deal.

Have a couple of trips back to the US planned already so looking forward to trying out more Qantas Clubs and an around the world the year after.

Qantas Airways Ltd. will cut the number of first and business class seats across its long-haul fleet as part of a review of seating following a slump in demand for premium travel, the Australian Financial Review said.

The airline would likely increase the number of economy seats on international routes to match moves by Singapore Airlines Ltd. and Emirates Airline, the newspaper said, citing Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce. The reconfiguration of the fleet is expected to be announced before Christmas, the Review said.

The global airline industry is expected to lose $9 billion this year, the Review reported.

Qantas is targeting another A$1.5 billion ($1.4 billion) in savings over the next three years and has already cut about 700 management jobs and deferred some plane orders, the newspaper said.

So any ideas?

Wonder if the B744 will have a single config for all the aircraft instead of the current 3 separate configs?

I assume the A333 config will remain the same 30J/267Y? I see the current Intl A332 config changing from the current 36J/199Y to something like 30J/215Y to better match the A333 fleet??

Wonder if they will take this opportunity to add premium Y to the 2 class B744s? and maybe add the A380 economy style seats to the rest of the Intl fleet?
And what about the A380? Less J seats and more Y+ on the upper deck?

Interesting....
