I have been trying to book a First or Business Class award ticket for BOS/NYC-ZRH on LX or BOS/NYC-FRA/MUC on LH for May using CO miles. (I have CO Gold status.)

Expertflyer.com shows availability almost daily in May on LX to ZRH in I and O from BOS and JFK.

ANA shows availability in May almost daily in all classes from both cities on LH to FRA/MUC.

Multiple CO representatives today insisted that there are absolutely no seats available for award redemption on either airline in ANY class of service for the entire month of May for any of the above cities.

Either CO is blocking availability or they are completely unfamiliar with Star Alliance booking procedures.

Has anyone else had any similar problems booking Star Alliance award seats on CO?

While someone posted in another thread that DirectTV is being enhanced to fix a glitch over the next few weeks, my CO FA made an interesting announcement on this evening's flight.

She mentioned a CO flight last night experienced a problem with DirectTV that created an in-flight fire in the passenger cabin. The flight made an emergency landing and all are fine...but as a result of that fire, DirectTV has been disabled system-wide at CO.

I've seen no news mention of any such incident... surely an in-flight fire would have made headlines somewhere. Especially on here. What's up with DirectTV... and why are FA's talking about in-flight fires?

I am taking the CO58 IAH to AMS flight arriving in Amsterdam at 8:05 Sunday Morning. I need to book a train ticket out of Amsterdam Centraal Station. I have some options for a few trains between 900 and 1100. I would like to get on the earliest one possible. Would it be too risky to book a 9:30 train? It takes about a half hour to get to Centraal Station from AMS. The problem is the train tix are restricted. Does anyone who flies this route often have any insight on how accountable this flight is? Flightstats.com on-time rating is 1.8/5 but I can't believe its that bad.

Thanks In Advance,

I'm thinking that such access would be a nice reason to purchase a membership. Might be nice to think about as a new benefit for some higher tier (platinum or beyond) as well (I understand opening arrivals facilities to *G would probably overwhelm the lounges & degrade service for Business and First Class customers).

I stumbled across this today and laughed.

The key paragraph:

The best part of Continental Airline's President's Club is it's members. People with money have no taste at all. Never before have I seen so many boat shoes in one place. The ratio of people with the stupid bluetooth phone earpiece in their ears to normal earth people was phenomenal. A true scientific anomaly. It was as if every rich person stereotype had come to life..tanned white guys in boat shoes with huge pinkie rings and a combover, black guys with bling everywhere, even on the cellphone, older ladies drooping yet pinned back faces with almost no nose left to hold up their oversized sunglasses from too much plastic surgery, investment banker looking guys in suits and flip flops trying to pick up the one single woman in the place at the bar. I saw multiple sweaters tied around the front of the neck, tennis style.

The reason I am on this forum today is I just completed a MR that will make me Gold Elite. Is there anyway that CO will allow me to start my usage in 2011 (rather than in 2010 when I doubt I can do any flying) so I can use the medal perks?

Also, we have several trips reserved for 2010 on CO. I called CO Customer Svc and they told me all I had to do was provide documentation with a doctor's note and they will refund my ticket cost to my CC. Is that a cumbersome process? I am hanging on with my finger nails now and one more obstacle is not what I need.

Major U.S. airlines' "going to see Grandma" surcharges are piling up this holiday season, and my, what big teeth they have.

Continental Airlines became the latest carrier to expand surcharges for flights on peak travel dates from now through May.

The major carriers started adding surcharges in September, after American Airlines designated three peak holiday travel dates. American and its major competitors soon extended fees to more dates.

In the past week, most of the major airlines have added a new wave of designated dates and upped the charges.

Continental, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and its Northwest Airlines subsidiary are charging $10, $20 or even $30 above the published base fare on designated dates.
Today, in the middle of my busy day at work, I decided to try to change the ticket (still in the 24 hour period, so no charge), to see how much it would price at a different return. Unfortunately, the system cancelled (and refunded!!!) my ticket (I didn't ask to cancel, was just trying to change) and now I can't get it back. Can someone help me? I called the Elite desk for help and they told me there is nothing they can do and I need to reprice the entire ticket (which is, of course, much more expensive today)...

I've seen that upgrades are possible, but haven't found any info as to whether it's possible to book a mileage award flight on CO with UA miles.
Has anyone done this or know if it's possible? I know I could call and ask but I know folks here would probably know more than the service reps ;)
