Hi,

I planned to visit HK and TPE during Chinese Year. Where can I find the cheapest J class? My friend is going with me so I would like to use my miles to redeem a companion for my friend.(to share airfares)

I know the ex-tpe for business class (booked in I class) to the US is outragiously cheap (like $ US 2,500). Can I get this kind of price in the US like SFO or LAX area, maybe from a local travel agent?

Everyone here really paid at least 5K for J class?

Dear all, I need advice on what to do.

I have been offered a platinum amex card by the supplier to my retail business. The card will cost $300 and accrue 1.5point-1 $aus for the first 250,000 then 1-1 afterward of amex points.

The supplier will charge the card for all of my invoices which will be approx 2,000,000 per annum. The catch is they will charge 0.85% surcharge plus gst.

The long and the short is that The extra cost is say $17500 plus gst and I can get a benefit of 2,125,000 points a year. Or I can transfer them to $21,250 of travel vouchers but I would be liable for fringe benefits tax (or have to make an employee contribution and lose the gst component)

I was intending to go ahead with the deal as I understood I could transfer to QFF and then use it for family members to travel extensively.

Apparently this card won't transfer to QFF and they have suggested using Singapore Kris Flyer which is a 1-1 transfer. The alternative are Asia Miles Cathay, Thai and Malaysian and a couple of others. The transfer rates for the others vary as do the redemption rates.

My questions are: I have no idea of ease of redemptions with Cathay Asia Miles and its One World partners. I have no specific dates for travel and can be flexible. Will I easily be able to get flights? Would I be able to achieve good value for the effort involved given the points required?

I live in Brisbane and would travel to Europe and the Americas to use the points.

Does anyone know about the Kris Flyer with respect to redemptions and value similarly. I shall post a similar message on its forum.

All - currently holding 4 J one-way awards, JFKHKG connecting to HKGBKK. CX 841/701, so departing JFK in the a.m., arriving BKK in the evening.

I'm debating taking the night flight (CX889) from JFK, via YVR. However, the logical, onward HKGBKK flight is NOT available in J, only in Y. Therefore, my options are:

1) Stay put, and avoid YVR stop.
2) Book 889, endure YVR (traveling with kids, so night flight might actually be best), then book connecting HKGBKK in economy. Arrive BKK around noon.
3) Book 889, endure length HKG connection and still end up taking afternoon flight to BKK in J.

My question is whether CX would allow me to stand by with J award tickets for that earlier HKGBKK. Any experience with this? Yes, we would have checked bags.

Back in 2006 I was comfortable arriving at the airport about 75 minutes prior. Have the security lines gotten worse since the Mumbai attacks?

My wife is still recovering from the serious food poisoning that she suffered after eating the chicken rice in Y on CX711 from Hong Kong to Singapore last night.

She started to feel there was something wrong with the food immediately after eating it, and was taking seriously ill about 6-7 hours later, resulting in a doctor being called in the middle of the night to treat her severe stomach cramps.

Hopefully it was just an isolated incident. I've just filed the incident with CX Customer Service by fax and the Web site, and will report back on what they say.

But, in the meantime, those who wish to play safe might wish to steer clear of the chicken rice if they're offered it in Y on flights out of Hong Kong over the next few days.

This is the very first time that it's happened to me so I'm wondering if this is something MPO has done in the past, or is it something new?

While I was taking a nap with my sick son last night I got a call from MPO, and mind you my responses were impatient because my son is sick and the call woke me up, but here's the gist of our exchange.

MPO: may I speak to Mr. X
X: This is he
MPO: hello Mr. X, my name is whatever and I'm calling from MPO, and we noticed that you flew twice in one month and requalified for SL, congradulations.
X: ok...
MPO: We would like to remind you that you are almost there to qualify for GL, and you needed just 25,000 more miles to do that.
X: yeah...
MPO: Would you like me to explain to you some of the additional benefits you may enjoy once you become a GL member?
X: no, I'm already familiar with how your elite program works
MPO: very nice Mr. X, we value your businesses very much, anything else I can help you with today
X: no.... (in retrospect I should of complain about never getting op-up and I might get a free coupon code or something, oh well)
MPO: thank you Mr. X for your time, bye bye
X: (hung up)

Is this normal MPO marketing? Or did my two long-haul flights in one month trigger something in their system that I'm their newest sucker?

Looks like securing F awards to/from NA will be more and more challenging as the downsizing of aircraft for these routes reduces seat capacity from 12 to 9 to 6.

Our plan was get up early 5am and workout in JFK airport hotel - Have lunch on plane around 1pm (4 hours into flight) Watch movie (now 6 hours into flight), Then sleep for 6 hours (ambien's limit for me). Snack before arrival. Stay up for HKG to BKK and hopefully awake enough to enjoy dinner in BKK and bed at 10pm BKK time.

Any other better suggestions?

I was travelling SYD-HKG this weekend and walked through the J cabin on the A330 (33B). I noticed that the seats had been recovered with a much more pleasing fabric. It was smoother, and not made of that plasticky fake velvet. I'm sure it would mean that your clothes don't get stuck on the fabric as you try to slide around on it, and probably be less hot as well. The old fabric was terrible to look at, feel and made you feel so hot. And it looked old even on new aircraft.

Unfortunately I wasn't sitting in J this time so wasn't able to see if there were any other changes to the seat.
