Surrounded by the sea and stunning archipelagos, these Nordic countries include unique architecture, buzzing waterfronts, fjords and the Blue Lagoon. And the Vasa Museum in Stockholm may be the most visited sight by members of FlyerTalk.

Would you all recommend a quick, last-minute Thanksgiving trip to Scandinavia?

Either Stockholm, Oslo, or Copenhagen.

Departing from PVG.

Thanks :)

Guide: The best Swedish "räksmörgås", shrimp sandwich in Stockholm!

Hello!

Almost everyone in Sweden has tried a räksmörgås, which consist of toasted white bread, egg, shrimps, mayonnaise and lemon. Its a classical dish, but has veeeeryyy inconsistent taste depending on where you eat it, and believe me: You can eat it at many restaurants (or the Toast Skagen which is similar, but more "creamy").

Anywho, me and my father decided to try a couple of high-ranking Räksmörgås in Stockholm, which was listed by a big newspaper.

The reason why I think Stockholm-travellers should try it, is because I think it's a delicious dish and is probably not available outside of Sweden (The IKEA-version sucks!). If you have eaten it at your hotel or some small café, try it at one of these places and see the difference!

So, my recommendation for räksmörgås in Stockholm follows (100-170kr for a big one!):

1: Melanders Fisk, inside of "Söderhallarna", grocery market at Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm. The BEST. Big and packed with shrimps. The mayonnaise is what makes this the best. About 140kr.

2: Konstnärsbaren, Smålandsgatan 7 by Östermalms square. Toooo much shrimps! Otherwise splendid taste. About 170kr.

3: Tysta Marie, inside of Östermalms saluhall (market). Try the Toast Skagen here, not the Räksmörgås. Its superduperdelicous! About 180kr.

Outside of Köttbullar and other "Swedish" food, I definitely think that trying the räksmörgås and Toast Skagen will be a great experience!

Advice for which US-based debit/credit cards to use in Stockholm

I'll be in Stockholm for about a week in a month's time, and I'd like to plan now which credit and/or debit cards to use.

I've prepaid my hotel stay but will surely have lots of meal, museum, and other incidental expenses.

I've been thinking to use mostly debit card(s) to make cash withdrawals. I have debit cards from Chase, USAA and Bank of America, and credit cards from B of A, USAA, and AMex. No Capital One or Schwab cards, and I'd rather not add to my already large collection just for this trip.

If I understand what USAA says correctly, the total charge will be 1% if I use their debit (or credit) cards.

I'm aware that B. of America has agreements with some other banks (Global ATM Network) that may make it possible to withdraw cash with no charge at all, at least from B. of A. (However, I doubt B. of A. would reimburse a possible fee from the local Stockholm bank for ATM withdrawals.)

Does anyone know which banks in Stockholm have such a Global ATM Network agreement with B. of America?

Thanks for any advice,

R.
