Asia is the favorite destination of FlyerTalkers. So it should come as no surprise that they have asked and talked about golden palaces, ancient temples, jungle treks, garden bistros, seaside cafés, classic noodle stands and where the best hawker centers are. And don’t forget the threads about Angkor Wat, smoldering volcanoes and of course, where the best pristine beaches are.

However, I'm a female travelling alone and know no Korean. The hostel I am staying at now has said that Jeonju might be difficult for me as their are no hostels and very few English speakers.

Has anyone been there? Will it be difficult for me? I'd love any recommendations for places to stay.

I have a six hour layover at TPE and since it begins at 17:00, it's too late to visit the Aviation Museum. So to kill time and because I'm weird, I was thinking of taking UBus to the Taoyuan High Speed Rail station, taking the HSR to Taipei station and then back to the airport. I've never taken the THSR so this will allow me to check it off the list (as I said, I'm weird).

Anyone see issues with this plan? Crowded buses, not being able to get a seat on the return train, equipment breakdowns leaving me stranded in Taipei, total waste of time?

Thanks.

I recently visited Vietnam and had a good time. I had a full page one time use only visa. I'm pretty sure I will be going back to visit again in the future using the same passport.

Obviously I would need a new visa for the next trip. When you apply for a new visa do they cover up the old one, or do you start a nice collection of full page visas?

I don't want to get into the details of multi-entry visas and whatnot. Let's assume I would be visiting infrequently and not able to utilize a multi-entry visa.

So basically, does your passport start filling up with a bunch of one page visas? Or can they change your old one, or put the new one over the old one? Do different countries do it differently?
Thanks

What would be a reasonable amount of local cash to have on hand before arrival for each of these places?
What expenses should I expect to have cash for? Taxis, tips, side trips?

Or is the exchange rate that CCs will charge not worth using it for meals and shopping?

Mostly want to use DL AMEX and UA Visa, but also have AA Mastercard if needed.

Are these widely accepted in NRT, SIN, and PEK?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Folks,

I arrive from JFK into ICN at 5.10 am on a Saturday on OZ and leave at 3.15 pm for PEK. I've chosen a longer connection since I'm keen to see Seoul.

Having done some research I see that there are transit tours from ICN, but most of then start at 9 am. Is there something that starts earlier? My top choice is to see the DMZ, and my 2nd choice is to see some spots in the city

Couple of questions.
1. Any tour company that does the DMZ in these hours?
2. If I get to the city myself and do the hop-on hop-off tour, what's the latest that I should be back at ICN?
3. Will OZ check-in my luggage all the way through
4. Would love your ideas and suggestions.

Thank You!

PS: I do realize that some of this is covered in prior threads, but given the odd hours of my transit, I decided to post this specific question.

What is the best located hotel to make sure we wont have any trouble making this happen? I hear the Grand Hyatt is next door, is there anything else with such a good location? Also, I hear 101 closes at 10PM. Would there be any problem getting there at 7PM or so? There wouldn't be a long line that would make them close for new guests early or anything, correct?

Hi Guys,
I'm currently in the works to get my visa and tickets for Vietnam. I'v never gone through a travel agent before so I'm not sure how their side of things works. I usually just purchase everything online. Can anyone chime in if $960 is a good price while using a travel agent.

Korea Air
19hrs LAX to SGN

Korea Air
30hrs SGN to LAX

We plan on staying for about 3 weeks leaving Dec 27th.

I've found tickets on americanexpress.com for $100 more than the agent's price with about 20hrs travel time each way which I think may work out better. If I'm missing any data that could help please let me know.

Does anyone have any advice or hints as to where I can get a good mix of flight time and price for Dec 27th out of LAX then back around the 15th of Jan?

Thanks in advance for the help.

i've read the other thread with recommendations for rental agencies, etc., and am looking for any recent info from anyone who doesn't live there--or isn't from there, anyway--and has tried it.

i'm a skilled driver and have navigated the roads in us and europe as well as barbados, which was entertaining...but i've spent a lot of time in asia without ever getting behind the wheel, or even wanting to. still, this seems like it might be a good way to see the country and should be manageable. suggestions?

Hi everyone,

Me and my boyfriend are in need of some help planning our 1 month in south-east Asia (our first stop during our RTW trip).
We start with 2 days in Hongkong and then we fly down to Ho Chi Min City on January 20. That part of the trip is already booked. Our thought is to fly from Bangkok to Singapore 3,5 weeks later and stay there for a couple of days and then continue to Carins. But the time in between Ho Chi Min and Bangkok is still to be decided.

Anyone who has travelled from Ho Chi Min through Cambodia and then on to Thailand and has suggestions on the route?
We are looking for a good mix of culture, beaches and nature. Places in Vietnam that we have thought of visiting is the Mekong delta and Puh Quoc Island. In Cambodia we are interested in visiting Sianoukville and Siam Riep. But it is only thoughts so far and we are open for suggestions, since we are not sure how to travel between these places and want to make the trip as "logical" as possible.

Any help and suggestions are welcome! :)

Thanks.
