Also how is breakfast J menu like? Given I will flying J NZ101 AKL-SYD 07:00-08:30 also. Sometimes I wonder whether J breakfast is really worth it, consider J lunch/dinner would be "better value"?!

Is earning status easier than earning points?

I have to qualify this with the comment that I am relatively new to Airpoints, having only been in NZ since August. I am still learning the ropes on this scheme.

However, I am finding it relatively straightforward earning status with ANZ/*A with even the lowest fares earning status points. I am not comlaining as I love the Koru lounges.

I have hit gold relatively quickly through a fair amount of regional flying, and a couple of Chinese domestic mileage runs in F. But the mileometer on Myanz.com seems to crank rather slowly. This is with me loading my GlobalPlus with purchases. I have only hit $1,000 which gets me to Perth and back in Y. I have to add that I could take the family long haul in J on award miles with Flying Blue or Diamind points; there is no chance of that with Airports.

I am sure that given the mileage I could have earned with BMI Diamond Club, M&M or even Flying Blue, I would have earned far more, or had better spending power with the points.

The Airpoints scheme seems to be the reverse of other schemes I am a member of, where status is tough, but earning miles is pretty easy, with double miles offers and the like.

Just an observation from a relatively newbie.
Any thoughts?

Can anyone clarify for me what the actual practice with bag allowances is nowadays for travelling with toddlers - particularly car seats and lap infants?

The actual scenario is a party of 5, travelling domestically, in 4 paid seats, with a desire to take 2 full-size car seats plus a buggy. Do those seats / buggy become the 'one 25kg bag' allowance for three of the seats, leaving a free allowance for only one more checked bag?

Has anyone travelled via PVG to AKL from anywhere in Europe?

I'm flying out on LX which arrives into PVG around 7am with a connection to NZ around 14:00hrs. Can I walk off the first plane and stay airside so i can go straight to a lounge? Or will I be forced through immigration, up to departures and have to wait until NZ open their check-in desks, at 11:00hrs, to get a boarding pass. I presume LX won't be able to issue the onward passes in ZRH?

Has anyone through checked bags? I know it's possible and agreements are in place, it's just this is highly unusual in PVG. Only LH LX and VS have an agreement in place to transfer to NZ. I wonder if the bags really will make it and would be reassured if someone could say yes it does.

Visas. I don't need one if in transit, but this is deep down in the small print. Will NZ ask for one though on the return. If I show a print out from the Embassy's website showing I don't need one will they accept it when checking in in ZQN?

Any other tips to make the transfer as smooth as possible would be appreciated? And I guess i'm just worrying unecessarily and all will go smoothly.

Cheers

Can only assume the last Friday before Xmas with heaps of Nzers heading home.

However, if I book MEL-LAX, in J which puts me on NZ124 a seat appears...
I am only booking EK as NZ only has A320/B767's on the day that they are flying to MEL and they want the better J product so I am putting them on EK.

After the CHC-AKL flight they then need to get to the International Terminal.

I have read about the bus transfer between the DOM/INT terminal but have a few questions

Do they take their own luggage on the bus ?
Does it go underneath the bus or on-board ?
The walk is 10 mins, but is it really 10 mins ?
What is the easiest way for an older traveller to get between the terminals with too much of a hassle with luggage?

I think I may be returning to the UK sometime next July ish. Reading the mini NZ trip reports courtesy of Kiwi Flyer I wondered if I could get to see all the NZ airports serviced by Air New Zealand prior to July (Oamaru appears to drop off the radar post 31/12/09?).
I then started looking at prices and being based in WLG wanted to tackle the direct flights first due to cost.
I note that the website has a multi-trip domestic planner, however, I presume that this just calls up the cheapest one-way between city pairs and doesn't provide a discount?
Maybe I should prioritise the ones with a lounge first ;)?!

Only have a lowly 7 seen so far, so plenty of work to do.

Is there a cheaper way I could see all the airports such as a "Circle NZ" or equiv ticket?
Any thoughts people?
