I'm sure this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything. Here is the definition of a qualifying rental from Hertz.com:
Qualifying rentals are used for the purposes of obtaining rental credit towards Five Star or President's Circle membership or for Free Rental Day Certificates; Any rental transaction that is made entirely with the use of a Free Day Certificate or Coupon will not be counted as a "qualifying rental" for the purpose of obtaining credit towards membership or other Free Day Certificates or Coupons.

I have 2 questions about this definition:

1) If I have a rental using #1 points, is this considered using a "free day certificate?"
2) Do rentals from facilities that do not award #1 points (non-corporate facilities) count? I still provided my #1 Club Number for this reservation (yet nothing was done with it...)

Been using the Platinum Benefits for the past year (mainly down under here in Australia) - with a few scattered trips to the US and Europe.

Upto 65 rentals for the year - so will be PC without a doubt - but I've been using the Platinum benefits (and enjoying them) quite well and successfully these past 11 months or so...

Of course, I could call the Plat Line tomorrow morning back in the US (it's Friday night here in Melbourne) - but was curious if any other fellow purchased Platinum travellers have been contacted about renewing their card for another year? (and if so - has the pricing changed?).

I get my mail forwarded every 3-4 weeks - and nothing in the last bunch from Hertz (although it may have been a bit too early for them to send out the renewal notice in late Oct/Nov).

Rent from Enterprise. Actually, you don't have to. I took one for the team today. ;) Enterprise is Not Exactly Hertz for sure. Some examples:

A Chevy Cobalt with manual mirrors, windows and even door locks (4 doors all must be locked and unlocked manually) and smells vaguely of smoking is an UPGRADE from my Compact reservation. Yes, at Intermediate class, you don't necessarily get power doors and windows and mirrors. This is company policy.

You NEVER get a full tank of gas. Good luck guessing how much to put in. You'll be giving Enterprise free extra gas most likely as I did. This is company policy. He told me I could call 24 hours in advance next time and maybe they could fill up a car for me. Ha. Imagine getting your rental with 3/8 of a tank and needing to drive a ways. What a crock.

This is on top of the usual walk around crap where you'd better be sure to note every single little scratch. Also you'd better have an insurance card with you.

They don't care, they don't have to, they get plenty of business. I wonder if the people who keep giving Enterprise so much business have ever rented anywhere else? I think a great many may not know it's possible to not have to deal with this crap. It's not like they're cheaper. I get similar rates from the HLE all the time.

I tried this Enterprise today because it's right next to the shop where I left my car. We only have one car now so it seemed reasonable. Next time I'll just schedule the car stuff well in advance, for a Saturday, and we'll walk to shops instead. It's just not worth the hassle. The HLE is not really close enough to work for this, at least not at the end of the day (I returned right before closing then walked over to the shop). The only way for me to work that with Hertz would be to rent for 2 days.

I actually emailed using the main web site this morning after I got to work. I haven't heard back from that yet. Not sure if corp answers or the local people, but either way it doesn't seem they get it. I don't know how they get repeat business. As I said, my theory is it's only from people who don't know better.

Compared to this, even the worst experiences I've ever had at Hertz have been fantastic. The HLEs generally treat me well. Which isn't to say that some things haven't gotten worse at Hertz over the last couple years, because they probably have. It's been a few years since I rented something other than Hertz. I know that Enterprise is an extreme, but geez, I'm not anxious to try others again that's for sure. I know there are some who will probably be able to say they've had the same things happen at Hertz. I must lead a bit of a charmed life with 10 rentals/year mostly from HLEs in this area. But still. I think I would take the worst Hertz experience over what I just had to deal with.

Go to Hertz, explain, and pay the damages.

Fix the damage, Go to Hertz, explain, hope they are OK

Fix the damage and tell no one.

I would go to Hertz, my concern is they will want to take the vehicle out of service for days while its inspected, charge me for lost revenue and over chgarge me to replace a plastic licence plate bracket. Does this happen?

Does anyoe have the phone for the LAX GM and is he or she reasonable?
Thanks.

I do wonder why Hertz are getting so many of these hatchbacks? These cars have such a slow pickup, hardly any space for luggage and worst of all, no protective cover for the luggage compartment (unless I missed it). The latter is the most irritating as I feel so unsafe leaving everything to the openview.

Is this going to become a norm?

Started with a 1 day, one-way (intra-FL, MCO pickup) rental for $70.50, A class upgraded to YB (Mazda 3 -- actually a decent car!).

Decided before the end of the 1 day rental to keep it for a week. Called rental extension number and was quoted $264.94 total, including taxes (diff of $194.54). Asked for an email confirmation, told that's not possible, was given the employee's ID number instead.

The next day, added a second driver (AAA, no charge).

Returned the rental (TLH), was told the total was $346.81. Told the counter agent the above, but of course I had no written proof. Agent generously dropped the rate to $300.

It seems hardly worth it to write to customer service, given the complete non-response I got last time I had a pricing issue. I recognize I'm not a particularly high value customer (9 rentals ytd totaling maybe $2k), so I'm thinking the easiest thing is to just switch companies? They seem like commodities to me...

Who is Taking Hertz to the next level of Success??

Dear Hertz,
I have been a Presidents Circle member for the last two years. As I review the last twelve months, I see I have 48 rentals racked up and another 3 through the end of 2009, for a total of 51. I also have over 12,000 #1 award points.

So what can I do with these points?

1. I’m going on a two week vacation to Europe in June 2010…wait, can’t use my US earned points in Europe.
2. Go to the Hertz shopping mall and buy something…..wait, Hertz doesn’t have a shopping mall like other frequent traveler programs.
3. Trade in the points for Airline miles…..wait, the value Hertz points equate in airlines miles is…well….CRAP, WORTHLESS, MINIMAL, ZILCH, and at best, INSULTING!!!

So, what am I to do in 2010?

1. Move to National Car Rental.
2. Get to choose the car I get to drive all week, every week, from the Emerald Aisle.
3. Earn more worthless points I won’t be able to use.

So, it seems I’m not getting anywhere with my rental car dollars (average $200 x 51 rentals = $10,000 annual). But, at least with National I get to choose what I drive every week.

Dear Hertz,
Have you noticed times are tough?; do you want loyalty and revenue? Step up, offer us more, be the rental car company that exceeds and succeeds into the next decade. Or if you prefer, Kiss my A$$ good bye!

Hi all,

This is related to a speeding ticket in Arizon while renting a Hertz car - more so related to what I need to do than what Hertz will do - but I figured I'd ask here first. Moderator, please move to the appropriate forum if this isn't it.

I just received a photo speeding ticket in the mail from the Arizona Dept of Public Safety. I was allegedly speeding in a Hertz Rental Car. I definitely was in Phoenix and rented the day the photo was taken. I am a Nevada resident with a Nevada license.

Everything I've read online (links below)....

http://www.city-data.com/forum/phoen...r-service.html

http://www.ehow.com/how_5215654_out-...ar-ticket.html

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...onkey0908.html - This one's actually pretty amusing.

http://www.motorists.org/photoenforc...speed-cameras/

http://www.speedingticketcentral.com...ng-ticket.html

...state that unless I'm served in person, I can avoid paying it.

Generally, if I break the law, I'm willing to pay the consequences. However, in this case, I was allegedly tagged outside of the airport. This, to me, implies that Phoenix is targetting frequent flyers (and don't they already have some of the highest car rental taxes at PHX airport anyways?) - and since the letter of the law appears to be that I'm not required to respond to this unless served in person within 120 days, I'm thinking I don't need to even worry about this, unless served in person, which is definitely a possibility as I live in Las Vegas, but not likely from what I've read online.

The alleged violation took place in early September. According to what I've read online, most things state that if I'm not served within 120 days (so, early January), then the case is dismissed.

From the comments sections on April 17, 2009 - http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/val...ement_how.php: The requirements for service under Rule 4.1(c) are clear. A summons and complaint may be served by first-class mail along with two copies of a notice and acknowledgment of receipt of summons and complaint and a postage-paid return envelope, but service is not complete until the acknowledgment of receipt is executed. Ariz.R.Civ.P. 4.1(c)(1), (2). If the acknowledgment of receipt is not executed, service is not complete under this method even if there is evidence that the summons and complaint were received. See Worrell v. B.F. Goodrich Co., 845 F.2d 840, 841-42 (9th Cir.1988), cert. denied, 491 U.S. 907, 109 S.Ct. 3191, 105 L.Ed.2d 699 (1989). Until service is complete, no personal jurisdiction is obtained, and any judgment entered is void. Endischee v. Endischee, 141 Ariz. 77, 79, 685 P.2d 142, 144 (App.1984); Kadota v. Hosogai, 125 Ariz. 131, 134, 608 P.2d 68, 71 (App.1980).)

Of course, I'm not a lawyer & couldn't figure out where Rule 4.1c is - http://www.supreme.state.az.us/rules/ramendmt.htm - but I'm trusting of the general knowledge on the internet (some are news sources - whereas I'd like to see the actual law myself so I can be 100% certain, I can't find it).

So, that said, my plan is to ignore this unless I get served in person (and honestly, I don't intend on answering my door to strangers). Does Hertz have any recourse? They own the car & I rent from them - but I don't have any plans to go to PHX (or AZ, or even rent a car for that matter) before the 120 period is up.

My thought is that my suggested court date is in early December, they'll only have about 35 days to serve me from the time that I no-show for the court appointment (which, from what I read is not mandatory if I don't reply to the letter - that's when they determine they need to serve you). And, as we're entering the end of the year & the holiday season (and I plan to be traveling on a few small trips during that 35-day perioed), I doubt they'll be able to serve me in person (considering that I live in NV) in that time. I won't plan on signing for any registered letters or anything during that time either, of course.

If served, I'll pay whatever fines I need to pay or appear in court (even if it's more expensive, I'm willing to take that risk).

Just to note, if you feel like responding to this thread with a "just get it over with & pay your fine," please save your breath. My moral philosphy tells me that, in this situation, I don't 100% trust the calibration of the radar camera, and I believe that if I broke a law, I should be notified by the authorities in person, not by a letter with a picture. That, and I think PHX is a town that intentionally screws out of towners with their ridiculously high rental car tax rates.

So, other than that, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Have any of you been in this situation with Hertz? Any penalties from them? I'm currently a President's Circle Member (but will be a 5* next year due to reduced business travel in 2009).

Thanks in advance! :)
