Location: The Garden Inn is located in a cluster of hotels right by where Pena Blvd becomes I-70. It's next to among others a Hyatt Place. Luckily there are a bunch of restaurants including Applebees and Ted's Montana Grille nearby. Parking was ample.

Hotel: Property was standard for a Garden Inn. High ceilinged lobby, small breakfast area and a nice sitting area with a couple of fireplaces. There was a business center with three computers and an indoor pool. My only complaint was that the conference room we had our meetings in was next to the pool (and has windows showing the pool for some odd reason) and the level of nosie was high.

Check In: I was part of a group of 30 showing up all with the same company. Check in was rushed and I was not welcomed as an elite member. I was given my preprinted folio with coupon for water and breakfast though.

Room: Standard king size room which felt small after my upgraded Hampton Inn room last week. Internet worked fine. TV was an old Zenith model that had really poor color. View was of the parking lot. Shower took a long time to get hot.

Other: Breakfast was very good. Helpful staff quickly offered me anything from the grille and coffee (I took tea of which they had a large selection) and the food from the buffet was all really good. I wish the dining room was a bit bigger.

Overall a good hotel. Our company rate was $109 for the night. I'd stay here again.

First night this week in a Hampton I left some pocket change on my dresser, it wasnt more than $.75, and left for the day. I wasnt too concerned as I do it often, I have never lost even a penny. I came back, it was gone.

At this point I thought, okay Dan_E, maybe you actually took it with you. So, on day 2 I left the previous days accumulation of pocket change, again, about $.75. It was in the same place, and I left. Yep, you guessed it, it was gone.

So, did I rush down to the lobby and report this? Nope. Day 3 I actually moved the change way across the room and layed it on a different table in a different spot. Yeah, no surprse, but the $.50 was gone, too.

So finally I was clear in my mind it wasnt a fluke, I went to the desk and asked the policy if a maid is to find money in her room. She of course said its to not touch it. I told them to review their policy, and make sure that their staff followed whatever it was.

I wasnt trying to bait the staff, but in hindsight I wonder if the maid could have honestly thought I was a cheapskate tipping her? What do ya'll think?

I have browsed this forum for years but haven't posted much. I see a lot of people prefer Starwood over HH

I may pay for 3 nights a year in a hotel so the way I earn is using my Visa/AMEX card for all of my purchases.

I spend about 25K a year on the Amex which gives me Gold status and about $7k on the Visa. There is no annual fee on either card which I believe I would have to pay on the Sheraton Amex and Marriot Visa

WIth Hilton I can 4 free nights a year at a cat 5 or 6 hotel for 125K points which is about the total number of points I get a year.

I can't see how I could possibly pull that off with Starwood or Marriot.

If I'm missing something please let me know

Thanks

How exactly does one go about getting a Diamond Force for Award Ressies?

We've tried requesting a Diamond Force for the Hilton Bentley Miami Beach for 6 nights in early March 2010. The hotel is mostly blocked off due to a convention (suites are available, as are ocean view rooms which apparently don't count as standard rooms).

The Diamond Desk is telling me we can't request a Diamond Force because no standard rooms are available, and there are other rooms available to book otherwise at higher rates.

Is this correct?

If the hotel was completely sold out would we then be able to get a Diamond Force on a standard room?

What is the proper context to be able to request a Diamond Force on an Award Ressie?

I have been a Diamond memeber for at least 2 years and I feel they could care less anymore. They keep raisng the number of stays to become a diamond and now they are going to raise points for a free night.
I stay with another hotel chain every so often and I feel they care more about gaining my respect to stay with them. They even offered to match the Diamond status for a year so I can achieve a good status with them.
I have 24 stays right now and not sure if I want to get the other 4. I just feel after 28 stays you may get 2 night free and a higher class Hilton. There is nothing free there.

I just saw this article on Yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20...edit_card_fees

Here's the gist of it:
American Express Co. is sending notices to customers who hold its cobranded cards with Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Hilton Hotels and Starwood Hotels, that beginning in January rewards won't be transferred to loyalty accounts with those partners if you are late paying your bill.

You'll be hit with a $29 reinstatement fee if you want the rewards back. That fee is on top of the late-payment fee — $19 or $38 depending on your balance. A penalty interest rate, currently 27 percent, would be assessed on future balances.

:D Better make those payments on time!

The service was excellent, the hotel was clean and well cared for. I was generally pleased with my stay.

Only problem: For two nights, the internet (included in the room rate; I didnt pay extra for it) was out in the hotel. In both cases, the front desk staff were apologetic. But despite their apologies, I was in town on business, and I needed access to the internet.

What would appropriate compensation be in such a case?

(If it matters, my room rate was about $160/night AI. Also, I am now HHonors Gold, though at the time I was Silver.)
