So, I need OW expert's advice on the strategy in crediting my LONE4 miles.

Some here are some facts about me:
* LA Comodoro - Emerald (LA flights earn 100% bonus km - but unsure if L class earns 100% within South America)
* LONE segments total to about 50K miles with 5 AA segments, 6 LA segments, 3 CX (do not earn on AA advantage), and 1 JL and QF
* nobody at AA
* based in YUL and ICN
* get closer to requalifying emerald status

While based on these facts, some may think it's a no brainer to credit all segments to LA, one must realize significant deterioration that happened to the LANPASS few months ago!!!

Furthermore, now being based in YUL, AA program may suit me better (I was status matched to top tier at LA this year and this is why I credited my DONE4 that I completed earlier this year to LANPASS).

Since there is soft landing in LANPASS, I will have at least sapphire status until 2012 March 31st (I requalified for Comodoro for next year), but I want to credit miles to a program that has good earn to burn ratio.

Should I do AA Plat challenge for and get plat status early on and credit all LONE4 to AA or continue on with LANPASS? OR Credit AA segments to AA (which comes upto around 24K miles) and rest to LANPASS?

Guys

I am planning to do a RTW in Business class with OW .. Its in the very early planning stage at the moment.

Living in Ireland, trailfinders are reputed to be the best for booking long haul and RTW tickets

I called into their office, spoke with an agent and was surprised to be the told the following, especially as I have spent time redaing as much as possible here on FT, I was hoping that those in the know, may be able to help with the following .....

I was told that starting anywhere in Europe will cost the same

Booking a 16 sector trip and returning to my original strting point using only 14sectors will mean the last 2 can never be used again, but if I started in DUB and ended in LHR for example, then the last 2 would remain valid for 12 months

If Mrs Flame travels with me, and I sign up for a QF FF card, then at the end of the trip I can have her miles transferred to my QF card

I currently have just Blue status with BA, having dropped 2 levels

Any overland sector ( EG .. train or car ) will count as 1 flight sector even if I dont fly and arrange surface transport myself

I was told that 2 weeks ago all RTW tickets increased in price

Sorry about the list above , but having been told that these changes were all brought in only 2 weeks ago, I was more than surprised

If anyone can confirm any of the above, I would appreciate it

Thanks in advance

I'm usually hanging out on Star Alliance, but for this trip it looks like OW is best for me, with multiple flights on LAN.

Tentatively (Jan/Feb):

MUC-AMM (few days in Petra / Dead Sea)-RJ
AMM-HKG (via BKK) - RJ, CX
HKG-MNL (looking for some advice for the Philippines) - CX
MNL-HNL (via NRT) - JL, JL
HNL-DFW (side trip planned out to Arizona) - AA
DFW-EWR - AA
EWR-SCL (via MIA) - AA, LA
SCL-PUQ (two days in Punta Arenas) - LA
PUQ-SCL - LA
SCL-IPC (two days on Easter Island) - LA
IPC-SCL - LA
SCL-FRA (returning to Germany, via MAD) - LA (one flight number)

Looking at doing this in Business, and the OW RTW planner says it is legal, 15/16 segments, and 6750 Euro (4 continents).

1. What extra taxes/fees can I expect, or is the 6750 on the money?
2. I don't have the actual mileage tallied up (not sure if the OW RTW planner does this?)
3. I have base membership in LA and BA. I would like to obviously use this trip to get some kind of status with either. Does BA assess tier points for non-BA flights? I know LA does, but you need to fly a certain number of segments on LAN?
4. I assume RJ would issue the tickets, as they are the first carrier?
5. I've never been to Hawaii, but generally don't like big cities to hang out in. Any ideas for a 'quieter' island? I was looking at arranging a flight to maybe LIH on Hawaiian.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts. As stated, first RTW so I'm not too familiar with this yet.

I am flying from the US to Italy on AA and then connecting to BA in Heathrow. Though, I know AA has its carry-on allowance, I had always been able to take somewhat "bigger" carry-on without any issues.

My question is - if it is allowed for me to take my carry-on on board AA - will I have issues with BA? I mean, it's a bit inconvenient to find out later that you have to check your luggage on your connecting airline.

Thanks in advance.

my wife is visiting her mother with end stage cancer which has deteriorated rapidly and she has extended her stay in the UK due to the hospitalization of her mother. My business trip this weekend to ICN is cancelled due to this. I am on a RTW and know that I can reschedule the current half used RTW to a future date. However I was commencing my new DONE3 in ICN Nov 21st issued by QF. Under the rules I know I can cancel and get a refund less 10% but I will need to go to ICN when family matters are resolved and I will then need to purchase a new RTW. I have 10 DONE/AONE under my belt and know the rules well but I just wondered if anyone ever experienced any rule flexibility where the initial flight can be changed due to serious medical circumstances like this? Your insight would be appreciated.

I've been a *A fan for years, but it looks like I'll be moving to Melbourne in the near future and I'm seriously considering switching over to oneworld.

I expect to travel in economy class, mostly medium/long-haul to Singapore, Japan and Europe. I care about lounge access and use miles for business class awards/upgrades. >50,000 mi/year should be doable, and to start off, I'll be clocking up 15,000 miles on Emirates and JAL in Nov/Dec. Should I:

a) credit all to Emirates? (JAL is a Skywards partner.)
b) open a JAL account and credit both there? (Emirates is a JAL Mileage Bank partner.)
c) file away the EK miles, open up another oneworld FFP for the JL miles, and try to fly BA/Qantas from now on?

Any ideas welcome, this is pretty much virgin territory for me. My only existing oneworld FFP is a dusty old Finnair card, which as far as I can see holds no redeeming qualities whatsoever...

It seems to be a pretty nifty way to pull up all relevant RTW and Circle fares by country of issue, so you can compare, e.g., OWE, GlobEx and Circle options all on one screen.

I'm told this isn't possible due to the following rule:

"Two stopovers of greater than 24 hours permitted in the continent of origin and only one permitted in each direction within the country of origin. You can only make an extra stop if it is less than 24 hours."

But it seems to me that I'm not violating the rule...I have one stopover in Houston and a second in Miami. Appreciate any help from the experts out there.

PS - Yes, I realize this is a woefully short trip for a OWE ticket, but it's for biz not pleasure. ;)

Hi All,

I am a Platinum on AA, and was reading the lounge access for one world and it says the following:

1. American Airlines AAdvantageŽ Program: American Airlines AAdvantageŽ Program members, regardless of their tier status, may not use lounges when travelling on solely North American itineraries (defined as within or between the USA, Canada, Mexico [except Mexico City], the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean). In these cases, access rules are governed by American Airlines' own rules (ie paid lounge-access membership).

Does that mean that I can use the lounge during my flight from LAX - MEX - CUN and back from CUN - LAX?

It sounds like it's meant for us flying on AA, but I'm not really sure.

Also, does our status automatically get updated with Mexicana? I booked a flight a couple of weeks ago and am curious if I can get preferred seats now.

Thanks....
Senior executives from all oneworld's member airlines gathered at Mexicana's Mexico City base today to welcome the alliance's new recruit on board, led by:

Gerard Arpey, American Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive and current Chairman of oneworld's Governing Board.
Antonio Vazquez, Chairman and Chief Executive of Iberia, which has been serving as Mexicana's oneworld sponsor, supporting it through its alliance joining program.
John McCulloch, oneworld Managing Partner.
oneworld Governing Board Chairman, American Airlines Chief Executive Gerard Arpey, said: "oneworld is very selective about who we invite on board to join us as a new member. We only consider airlines with brands that match the quality of our established partners, who share our priorities of safety, customer service and profitability and who can expand our existing combined network in key regions, rather than simply replicating what we already offer. As the leading carrier in Mexico and Central America, Mexicana more than fits the bill. We are delighted to be welcoming it and its customers on board oneworld."

Iberia Chairman and Chief Executive Antonio Vazquez said: "Iberia has been honored to act as Mexicana's sponsor into oneworld, a process that has reinforced the excellent relations between both airlines. Mexicana will considerably strengthen oneworld's long established position as the leading airline alliance in the Spanish-speaking world and in Latin America, making it easier for more customers to reach more places more easily and for better value with some of the world's best airlines."

Mexicana Chief Executive Officer Manuel Borja said: "As a member of oneworld, we can now offer our customers more choice and convenience, a much more extensive global network, more opportunities to earn and redeem frequent flyer rewards, more lounges, more customer service support and better value - services and benefits beyond the reach of any individual airline. For Mexicana and our employees, becoming part of oneworld, flying alongside some of the most respected names in the airline industry worldwide, strengthens our position considerably in an increasingly competitive marketplace."
