So I'm going to St Louis next week and checked out the centurion FHR program and only 1 hotel is available there. It's the Ritz Carlton. So I checked the rates on the amex travel site and it was $169, which I thought was a great deal for a Ritz especially with the $50 credit and free lunch or dinner with the FHR.

So I called up CTS to book it and it's $269 with the FHR amenities, or $169 without.

Is that standard practice - to up the rate to compensate for the amenities? That hardly seems like a benefit.

On the other hand, using FHR for my Vegas trip worked out great and even got a better rate with FHR than on the hotel's website.

Thanks :)

Hi, had a quick question for the experts out there.

I'm aware that a companion ticket scheme runs on the Amex Plat in the UK (and the US, I guess) where you essentially get 2-for-1 on air tickets in certain classes on certain airlines. Looking at the list, I don't see BA listed, which is annoying as I fly BA for business and have over 100k miles accumulated now.

A colleague has the BA Amex card and says that you can get BA companion tickets in any class with that card, and he recently used 100k miles to get 2 return business flights to the Caribbean.

So it's fairly clear that BA and Amex have a relationship - what's the chances I'll be able to get a companion ticket on BA business through my Plat card?

Hi all,
I recieved a $500 Michael Kors gift certificate a few days ago. Given that I have received the last few certs, it seems that Centurion likes me again!

I wouldnt have gone to MK without this g.c. so it will be truly incremental revenue for them from me (of course that's before before pulling out whatever sort of split they have with amex on the $500)...and after doing some browsing there this week, I'd say that it is a good spot for bags for my gf so they may have landed a regular customer. MK seems pretty reasonable vs. many other designers for similar look & quality.

So I called PTS for the first time, to see what I've been missing. I needed to book a round-trip flight YYZ-AUA, nothing too complicated. They said they'd call back, so I amused myself by scouring the online agents in the meantime. When they called back, I'd assembled some possible itineraries from the usual suspects (Kayak, Orbitz, Expedia, Mobissimo).

The first surprise was that the options they offered weren't as good as the best one I had found online. Their proposed itinerary was much longer and not on my preferred alliance, though it was about $20 cheaper. OK, that's understandable, only I myself can know my exact preferences. I told the (kind and polite) rep of the itinerary I found, and he was able to find it and price it about the same. So far so good.

The rep emailed me the itinerary and the signature form, and that's where things started going wrong. He calls me back five minutes later and says he'd forgotten to mention their $50 booking fee that they levy on top of the ticket price. He says the tickets will cost me that much extra if bought through PTS, but that I'm welcome to buy them online if I wish, saving the $50. I thank him and say I'll think about it, since I have until the next day to make the purchase.

After thinking about it some more, I decide it's pointless to pay PTS the booking fee for the itinerary that I found myself anyway, and I purchase my tickets on Expedia, but with a slightly different itinerary. I email the PTS rep to inform him of this and say that I no longer need his original reservation.

A few minutes later, the rep calls me again. He tells me something confusing that I'll try to repeat here as best I understand it. He says that when he went to cancel my reservation, the ticket purchased through Expedia showed up in my file. He claims that this is illegal, that Expedia is somehow trampling on his sale, that his cancellation of the old reservation may invalidate my purchased ticket, and that I should call the airline to find out if they have two reservations in my name. I'm a bit upset now, since all this says to me is that my life would have been much simpler if I'd never called PTS in the first place and simply bought on Expedia. I certainly didn't do anything illegal, and anyway it was all driven by what the PTS rep told me and forgot to tell me.

So I call the airline and confirm that my ticket is secure and that they do have a previous reservation in my name with a slightly different itinerary. I call back the PTS agent and give him the old reservation number. He says he'll have to speak to his manager on Monday and that he'll be in touch.

I'm really not sure what to do or say now. It seems to me that this is completely and utterly PTS's fault and that they should clean up their own mess without involving me. I hope they don't screw up my purchased ticket in the process. Hell, I'm scared to even think that they can screw up a ticket I purchased through another agent on PTS's advice.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a common problem if you don't cancel a reservation before making an alternate purchase? How can PTS cause this much heartburn with just one call?
(Mods, please move elsewhere if this is not the right forum. It seemed appropriate to AmEx.)
