Russia needs to authorize overflights of Siberia to planes carrying over 500 pax, and seems to be dragging its feet, asking for compensation in return, in the way of more slots for Aeroflot passenger/cargo flights to France.
Le Monde has the story here.

I'm now mainly concerned about baggage, how anal are they about it ? I'm not going to be way over limit, but will they jump around if I"m over the 20kg limit by 1-2 kilos ?

Also, I'm planning on having 1 piece of carry on baggage (my backpack) + my laptop in its own laptop bag measuring 47cmx34cmx12xm. Will this be a problem ?

I've flown by Lufthansa in the past with the laptop bag+backpack and there havent been any problems. I'm now just a bit apprehensive about AF.

I was in the AF CDG 2E Lounge yesterday and there was no food available at 13:30. About 45 min later yoghurts and the most boring (again usual) flat bread with grilled vegetables were on offer. I did find one little plastic cup with coleslaw, 2 dry slices of olive/Turkey (actually Turkey Hen as per the description card) but no bread as someone nicked the last 3 slices just in front of my nose :( I was quite hungry but was scared to ask for more...

One elderly gentleman did bring this forward to one of the dragons, but I could see when she came in she didn't look very interested in his request / complaint nor did she seem to do anything about it. Standing with her arms crossed starring at the East German supermarket shelf look-alike (i.e. empty) shelves.

No offence to my fantastic French fellow FT'ers, but I find crisps from France (and even southern Europe as well) quite greasy compared to crisps from the Isles in the North West of Europe, so I wouldn't be able to eat large amounts of these to fulfil my hunger.

So what I really wanted to know was: Is there a time table/schedule of when different types of food are available and what types are served at the different lounges at CDG?

Cheerio

I was aware of the widespread opinion that Air France 10-seats-in-a-row on the B777 is not particularly appreciated by most passangers.

Today I had my first ever flight in such a seat, luckily it was on the shortest flight in the B777 network, from CDG to BEY.

Man, those seats are really narrow! I didn't fit in. Sure, I am tall (1m 88cm), but not fat or anything. Still, I didn't fit in. Since legroom was so small I had to spread my legs, which meant that I didn't fit into the confines of my two armrests. The flight wasn't full, so I had a free neighbouring seat which sort of saved me. Thank God my return flight tomorrow is in C again...

Other than that it was the typical AF/ADP experience, everything ran as expected:

The ^ points

Staff at CKI and crew on board super friendly, courteous, professional, like 99% of AF cabin crews are

Good selection of movies on the IFE

Similarly the :td: points also met my expectations

Silly CKI deadline: 60 mins before departure

No possibility to circumvent this as there is no printing of BPs for this flight, just the "confirmation"

Even for that one first has to research one's ticket number, FFP number didn't work, nor reservation #

Boarding started 50 mins before departure, they created a real sense of stress and urgency 30 minutes before departure ("the flight is closing, we'll remove you from the flight") - but let people through until 5 minutes before departure.

Bus departure (OK, that's life, not complaining about that) but complete inability to get busses organized. One bus was full, but stood there for 20 minutes. Then, at departure time, he was told to leave, leaving about 25 people (including me) behind. We then had to wait another 20 minutes on the staircase in the wind and cold (and I got myself a bronchitis) for another bus to turn up. Bus driver then got lost on the way to the "Parking Hotel". We boarded 30 minutes after departure

Another delay of about 20 minutes because the catering people had done an error

During the flight, the IFE stopped working properly after about 2.5 hours

But as I said, nothing dramatic, that's the kind of expectation I have of an AF flight: I get where I want in sort of relative comfort, but plenty of small organizational/logistical hiccups that delay things. Not bad enough for me to completely avoid them and waste my time on a transfer elsewhere instead of this nonstop flight (although for almost any flight longer than this to Asia or the Americas this is what I do).

Going through my list of recent flights now, some good, some bad, and then update my signature. Not sure we're going over the 45% mark. Which is lousy if you think of it, isn't it?

But those seats (which are the motivation for this post) - Gee, I can understand why people rant about them. Never again, not for me or not before I turn into a dwarf or pygmy.

I just booked a RT award ticket using AS miles from SEA-CAI for next October.

I checked immediately after making the reservation this morning on the AF website and all four flights showed "confirmed" with all 4 seat assignments

This afternoon when I went onto the AF website and put in my AF Confirmation # the reservation came up but shows my outbound flight status as "flown" even though the flight date is correct for an October 2010 departure. Because of that the seat assignments are gone.

The return still shows a "confirmed" status and shows my seat assignments.

I called AF and they said it was bug and not to worry.....

Should I pursue them to "clean up" the reservation ....it is a little unsettling to see the word "flown" on a reservation for next year.

BTW: When I plug my confirmation # into the amadeus website checkmytrip.com it comes up correct including the seat assignments.

I've actually never checked bags on a TATL trip that had a stop before the final destination so i'm not at all familiar with how checked baggage is handled *in general* on routing connection points, much less in this sort of circumstance. Are bags typically checked to your final destination, or do you have to collect them and go through security again so they can be checked into your final destination? Does the answer depend on whether the connection point in europe is in a different country that the flight origination city in europe? And in a case like this with a long layover, will there be any changes to the normal way of routing luggage on TATL flights with connection points?
