Hi everyone.

A search of the board reveals much discussion about the individual tools, but nothing quite answering my question:

I have a specific flight (TG621 on 21-Dec) where I'm looking for a exec-class award seat. My Mom is currently confirmed in economy; the other 5 segments are up front.

Before I sign up for the ANA tool, I wanted to ask if there was a more simple way to check for award availability on that specific flight. I am resigned to hitting refresh on whichever tool every morning, but want to go the simplest route.

Related questions:
1. Can I call to make this change until the day of travel (21-Dec)? Or until travel commences on the overall itinerary (29-Nov)?
2. From other threads, I understand the $90 change fee applies. Is that correct?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Virgin Atlantic, the pioneer of several improvements in seat design over the past 25 years, yesterday won the latest round in its fight to protect the exclusivity of its Upper Class seat.Virgin is taking legal action against Delta, Air Canada and Jet Airways, which all bought the Herringbone seats from Contour.

YVR Fast Track Lane Security not so Priority Afterall

I was just reading through the thread on priorty baggage tagging and it reminded me of another "just for looks" sort of priority gimmick: the YVR Fast Track Lane.

On more than a couple of occasions when I have been directed into the Fast Track Lane (I am AC Elite) I have stood waiting in a long and slow queue while people in the regular lane go right through an abundance of open scanners! Has anybody else noticed this?

The reason is that they normally have just one or two X-ray scanners for the Fast Track and maybe six for the regular lane (I can't remember exactly how many) and that, for whatever reason, there are a lot of people in the Fast Track lane all waiting for the same scanner, whereas people are moving right through the regular lane!

On one occasion, I was directed into the Fast Track into a long queue of people waiting for a single scanner and there were only about half a dozen people in the regular queue with at least 4 scanners operating!!! Finally (but not soon enough for me), someone noticed and adjusted the barriers so that one of the regular scanners was switched to a Fast Track scanner. But seriously, I don't think the staff are noticing generally! The person directing you into one queue or the other is on the other side of a wall with two doorways, so he/she can't see. The end result is that the priorty queue takes longer (or at least as long as) the regular queue!

Another just-for-looks gimmick! :)

Anyone else notice the same thing at YVR or elsewhere?

question on multi city ticket

Hi everybody, i am new here and I have a question on a ticket I am about to buy.
the route is london LHR to YHZ, then YHZ to JFK, with a stop over of 1 night in Halifax.
For the way back, it will be JFK to YHZ, then on the same day YHZ to LHR.
Now the problem is that I am not sure I will get on the YHZ - JFK flight, simply because we might drive there with some relatives. The plan is not sure yet, but I want to buy my ticket now for different reasons.
For the way back, still I might drive to Halifax and then catch the second part of my flight.
What they told me at AC is that this may create a problem since we, as passengers, are not allowed to skip flight segments. So if I skip the YHZ-JFK flight they might have to reissue my ticket, and i will have to pay an extra.
I obviously intend not to pay any extra fees... so I am asking :
is there a way i will be allowed to to this ? maybe putting a stop over between the 2 segments would help, since the 2 flights will belong to 2 separate check in...?
I am just guessing here.
Thank you so much for the ideas you can give me :-)

SO , as usual, my airline, aeroplan ticket has been issued under 'kodi smith'. I am flying internationally, and Air Canada is saying the ticket must match exactly to the passport.
Aeroplan agrees, and wants to charge me $95 to change the name on my ticket.
Do you think I should, or will 'kodi chase' be ok, as it usually is?

Hi,
I just received my Prestige status yesterday from AirCanada. I presently have 27203 miles. I will be travelling to BC (from toronto) next week which will add 2078x2=4156 to my total. That brings me to 31359. Am I correct that one of the choices for my prestige is that I get 1500 status miles for this year? If so that would be bring me to 32859.
I am assuming it would be worth it for me to fly from Toronto to Regina (1258 miles) and then fly home just to break the 35,000 marker and get elite for next year.
Am I looking at this correctly? Thanks for any help

Hi everyone,

I am an SE for this year and am not sure if I'm going to make it for 2010. Thought I'd ask the collective geniuses here if I'm going to make it or if I need to do a MR....

Right now I have 79,000 status miles. Trips I have scheduled before the end of the year include:

RNO - SFO - YYJ (on United)
YYJ - YVR - LON (on AC)
LON - DUB (on BMI)
DUB - Copenhagen - NRT (on SAS)
NRT - YVR - YYJ (on AC)
YYJ - YOW (via something TBD - on AC)

So I've roughly calculated that the whole middle portion of these trips (basically a RTW from YYJ - DUB - NRT - YYJ) takes me to 94,916 miles. Not including any status bonuses I might get as an SE (do I get status bonus miles?). I'm flying economy, so no class of service bonuses.

I haven't calculated the RNO - YYJ flight, but at most it would add 1000 miles, right?

So that leaves me needing to pick up...4,000 miles with the one trip from YYJ - YOW. Is this possible to do in any way at all? Like...what if I flew business class perhaps?

So between business class possibly for YYJ - YOW, or any potential status mile bonuses for flights as SE, do you think I will make SE next year? Or do I need to consider a MR in my very limited spare time between now and the end of the year?

Thanks for any advice!

Richard

Hi from the 'new' YVR lounge!

Well, for the first time in 10 years I'm short of miles for Elite. It seems that I've traveled a lot, but with 3 award trips and being the first year since then that I haven't crossed an ocean at least once, I'm short. After this trip I will be short just under 2500 miles. Next year I already have 5 trips confirmed including 1 to LHR, and probably at least 1 trip to Asia still to confirm. I want to be Elite!

I've never done a Mileage Run before and I'm hoping not to have to now (though I will if I have to). I'd love to visit somewhere new. I had planned to visit Whitehorse for a few days. See some sights, do some skiing, and hopefully photograph some Aurorae. Unfortunately Whitehorse is incredibly expensive to get to! I would be OK going to Vegas for a day or two, but I'm going in January. I'd love to go to Moab on a photography tour but it's tough to get to. SLC would be nice - I could get some nice skiing and maybe an early season Telemark lesson (or even better a backcountry tour). It's really awkward to get to on *A, though. A great photography course (either outdoor landscape course or else indoor Lightroom course) would be amazing if it were somewhere interesting.

So what are your suggestions for short breaks that would get me at least 2500 miles? Price counts, but a fun new place counts a tad more. Normally I'm *really* flexible on travel dates, but exams are coming up and we're closing (fingers crossed) on a new house in a few weeks.

Thanks

Dr. PITUK

So I arrive at the MLL in YEG this morning and I see about 6 agents lined up at the desk and a guy arguing about why he should be let in with his amex platinum card (non Maple Leaf version). The agents were trying to tell the guy that he doesn't have the Maple Leaf card and just a regular amex platinum, but, this guy would have none of it.

Another *E walks up and says "it's ok, you can come in as my guest"

The guy refuses to enter as a guest because he wants to clear up why he can't get in on his amex. The *E member says ok and leaves. After about 15 minutes (i'm behind this guy waiting) they denied him and said he needed to contact amex. At this point, the guy says "fine, I'm that other guys guest" and enters the lounge

Appears the agents just let him in with that.. Should be have been asked to leave? Why are people so stupid sometimes? Would you have offered this guy a free ride as your guest?
