I don't really have a big enough expense account or small business to truly fulfill the needed minimum required mileage on my credit cards when churning cards. Now that I submitted for the BA 100k card offer and it needs another $2,000 within 3 months, does anyone have any ideas on how someone like me (I'm sure I'm not alone) could bill miles on my cards to meet the minimum usage for bonus miles within the required time:confused:.

Thanks

I booked my November CO flight back in May. I paid the $, chose the seats, and signed up my Delta FF number.

Since then, the flight times have changed several times. Every time the flight time changes, my seats "disappear" and I am stuck in a middle seat. Then I have to verify that the new time change doesn't cause a big problem, and choose new seats.

Worst of all, I needed my last flight of the year on my Delta FF miles to keep my status with Delta. Now CO says that even though my Delta FF number is associated with this flight, I can't get Delta miles.

How is it that even months before the flight, if I want to make any change at all I owe them $ or in some cases can't make the change? Yet they can make any change they want and I'm just screwed. I would have flown on Delta, but now it's too late. Or is it?

If I call Continental or Delta, is there any chance to get these miles that were booked this way, or am I (as I assume) out of luck? :(

How to best use Avion points

I was going to convert my RBC Avion points to BA points using the winter 50% deal, but it looks as though that's not happening. I have about 132k points and can transfer them to Cathay Pacific or BA. I will be taking a trip in April/May and hope to use some of these points to get decent seats.

The first flight I am looking at is from YOW-BKK or YOW-HKT on Apr 24 or Apr 25. I'd rather not take coach for my first transpacific flight; if I was paying I'd probably go via YYZ & HKG, or somewhere in the US and ICN. Hoping to get a one-way business or first class flight, but I've seen that there's not many seats left with Cathay, and BA's not giving me anything over the net (both from YYZ as they don't fly to YOW it seems)

The second flight is May 28 from FCO-YOW. The problem I've seen with this is the one-way flights are really expensive; if I pay for the ticket I'd probably get a round trip from KLM FCO-YOW-Europe then skip the second flight. I'm hoping that points will allow me to get home at a decent points cost, possibly in business.

Does anyone have any tips on who to go with? I'm thinking BA for both, but I'm not even sure if there will be any seats by the time I switch my points over which takes a few weeks.

Thanks for your help! This is my first major overseas planning session and I appreciate the assistance.

A friend of mine forwarded to me this offer from bestfares.com.

Basically, become a bestfares.com member (cheapest option = $30 for 3 months), sign up for the credit card ($75 annual fee), get 50k "air miles", spend $2k in 90 days, get another 50k "air miles".

The example they use for the 100k air miles is AAdvantage. That's 100,000 miles for $105 (plus the spend) which would be less than two-tenths of a cent per mile.

Figuring this had to have been discussed on FT - legit or not - I came and did a search and found nothing.

Has this been discussed here before?

If so, can someone please offer the search terms that would yield the thread?

Just purchase $XX.XX Amex Gift Card with your mileage card.

Go to the US mint website and buy coins.
Even if it shows up as a cash advance on the gift card, it doesn't make a difference.
This way would enable you to continuously buy coins without worrying if it will be coded as a cash advance.

This will insure that even when the NA coins go back on sale, it will still be possible to get points. Just one extra step...

P.S. First post and I am sure someone must have thought of this but I can't find it anywhere. Also there are promotions and cb options through fw that can make this potentially sweeter.

This will also allow you to keep on ordering as you can buy cards in increments up to 3k and every card will have it's own number (obviously) making it harder for the mint to keep track.

Any flaws?

I have been a member of both schemes for many years but, now Continental has joined Star Alliance, I'm not sure which scheme is the best to accrue my points on in future when flying with Star Alliance carriers, Continental Onepass or BMI Diamond Club? I have rewards available on both cards but, for future points, I guess I should just choose one scheme to accrue future points on. Has anyone compared the schemes already and come to a conclusion? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice given.

Basically, if you have 3,180,000 points (equals 120 r/t C-class trips JFK-HEL) you can get plastic surgery.
Do you think the is a good development?

I was at the grocery store today and walked passed this enormous rack of gift cards and asked one of the ladies behind the customer service desk if I could buy money orders with their grocery brand gift card, and she told me that they normally only use pinned based transactions or cash. She asked why I would use a gift card, and I explained that I only had my American Express card on me and that I needed to buy one.

So she said well I will let you use your Amex card this time but next time try to bring in cash. So I bought several for one $3 charge. I called Amex and they told me I only have $400 in cash advance. Do you think these will be charged as a regular purchase since they signature and not pin based?
