I'm trying to remember the name of a small cruise line that was featured in the NY Times Travel section a couple years ago.... I know this is a long shot!

A friend of mine wants to take a Caribbean cruise sometime in February and I would be interested if (IF!) I can find this specific cruise line. I've never had any interest in cruises before (I prefer to spend most of my precious vacation time AT my destination, not on a ship!) but this article I read made this new small cruise line sound like something I'd be willing to check out. It was geared toward young(ish) people, not toward families with kids, and focused more on nightlife activities on the ship, etc.... The problem is, I can't remember the name!

Any help?

I've tried a searches in the travel section and have come up with nothing....

Thanks!

Hi I would love any/all input.

Next August (2010), probably late August, we would like to plan a family
cruise. We would like to avoid air travel, and live in the Boston area, so
that means (I think) leaving from Boston or from NYC.

I think we've narrowed it down to either Holland America's Veendam
sailing to Bermuda (8/22) from NYC or Norwegian's [Norwegian Dawn??
not sure] sailing to Bermuda (8/20) from Boston.

Here are my top priorities and maybe you experienced folks can tell me
which to pick:

1. Cleanliness - above all, I would like clean rooms, preferably with
daily linen service available. Bonus points for no smoking if such
a thing exists.

2. Availability on board of activities for my children (with or without parents
is fine), ages 12, 8, 3.5 at time of sailing.

3. Self-serve laundry available.

4. Food preferences honored for 1. kosher and 2. allergies (youngest has
multiple, but only peanuts are anaphylactic for him).

5. Not feeling too crowded (I realize rooms are always tiny, but within
that constraint).

Thoughts??

Decided to try a cruise with the family the last week in February with my wife and 3 kids. The kids are 9,8 and 3.

Disney, Royal Caribbean and Carnival have been recommended.

Just wondered whether there are other cruise lines I should be considering and if you've cruised with kids, what you'd recommend for my family.

Already looked at Disney, but the early dinner is full and there is no way my kids will wait until 8:30.

So, any work arounds for Disneys dinner? Or, will the other lines please my kids about the same amount?

My wife called and they said that all the concierge level suites are already sold out. I've read in previous non-related threads that possibly some travel agents may have purchased blocks of rooms? Any advice here?

Second: my wife has "heard" that the September cruises may have bad weather and the cruise could be very choppy? True?

Any or many folks ever done future cruise credit?

The Holland America Alaska cruise in May was something I really enjoyed and soon after embarkation a note was left in my cabin about the ability to either book a specific cruise in the future or to make a deposit and get a future cruise credit (FCC) that could be applied within 4 years to any cruise I chose. Have others taken advantage of these offers?

Seemed to me that it was worth it since they were going to give me a shipboard credit ranging from $25 for the inside cabins all the way up to $150 for suites and 4 years is a long enough time I can find another destination I want to sail to so plunked down my USD $100 and received my future cruise credit.

Besides the onboard bonus the other nice feature of a FCC is that its all I have to apply to the next cruise, not the normal deposit amount, so nothing out of pocket to 'top up' the difference between the value of the FCC and the regular deposit. ^

I'm sure anyone here who's sailed with the big cruise lines have seen or read this offers and wondered what the opinion was of them.

Happy sails!

When it comes right down to it, choosing a cabin is really a question of money. From a windowless lower-deck cabin with upper and lower bunks to a 1,400-square-foot suite with a butler and mile-long private veranda, cruise ships can present a dozen or more stateroom categories that differ by size, location in the ship, amenities, and, of course, price. To see what we mean, go to the Cruises Only website (www.cruisesonly.com); it presents 360-degree tours and photos of most ships in "About Your Ship" pages throughout the site.
