Anybody know anything about this product?

I need a couple of webcams in places where it would be difficult to get power. Need to occasionally view each cam (probably no more than 5-10 minutes total viewing a day)
WIll be travelling in a month to HK, Shanghai and Taipei. Anyone have any suggestions on what's the best way to get cellphone coverage?

Should it be renting a phone, getting a phone card, buying a cheap GSM phone? Is there one-solution for all 3 countries?

Also when using a phone card (say with my iPhone)...when using a local phone card, do i still get roaming fees?

thank you so much!

Do a lot of walking when I travel, even when I rent a car (because you're forced to park and walk a distance to see the sights).

So used the pedometer feature of the iPod Nano 5th generation on a recent trip. It counts your steps and seems reasonably accurate and it was kind of interesting to see your steps logged and graphed on the Nike Plus web site.

Got me thinking about adding the Nike kit, which would also track the distance traveled, not just total steps. Or getting a dedicated pedometer.

Then heard about fitbit.com and their $99 tri-axial accelerometer-based pedometer. Intrigued but most of my walking is done on trips, not much at home.

Anyone else track their walking excursions when they travel?

I just got my new IPOD Touch, and downloaded the new Zagat Guide app. Perfect, except that it requires WiFi access to use it.

But, the whole point of this kind of Guide is to use it "on the fly" when you're standing on some streetcorner wondering where to eat. I don't have WiFi access on every corner. I thought the content would be downloaded to the IPOD, but apparently only the operating software is actually present, you need to go online to search for anything.

Is there something basic I'm missing? Do most apps require WiFi access??

If you have to work with someone in another city on a continuing basis, then these technologies are essential. But it's just somehow never the same as being there in person.

So when do you decide that a virtual meeting is good enough, versus going to the cost and effort of an in-person meeting?

To some extent, of course, it depends whether you are "meeting" with coworkers in another city, or whether you are doing sales calls. I'm sure the threshold is much lower to justify in-person sales calls.

Since I respect and value the opinions of many of you on this board, I thought I'd let you fill my shopping basket. I need a Tech Makeover.

Currently:

I have a nearly 4 year old Compaq notebook with fried USB ports. I replaced the hard drive almost 2 years ago. I use a Dynex 2 port Card Bus Adapter for USB functions (expect my iPod Shuffle does not like the adapter, so I cannot sync.) My Internet access is from Comcast and I have a home WiFi setup.

I have a vanilla T-Mobile phone with the tmobile@home service, which gives me unlimited minutes from home and many hotspots. I have 1000 minutes and never hit it. My contract is up, so I am a free agent. I have no landline.

My Shuffle won't talk to my notebook.
And my new Sony Cyber-Shot's memory will not talk to my notebook (that has been confirmed with Sony and Compaq/HP).

My 6 year old Palm is about to quit on me. The battery life is short (been replaced once already.)

So, I am ready for my makeover.

Needs and Wants:

I will probably stay in the PC family. I don't game or edit film. I do email, surf, and some work stuff. I do like to stream movies from Netflix. But other than that, nothing that requires anything above average horsepower.

I like my Palm, or more specifically a PDA. But carrying a PDA and a phone (and even a Shuffle) gets old.

I like the portability of my notebook, both within the house and on my occasional travels. But I would consider an iTouch or Smartphone to give me that connectivity while on the road. I travel about 1x a year for work. My travel is primarily personal.

I am willing to change my phone plan (about $55/month for 1000 minutes, but no texts or data) for more functions. I am also willing to cut Comcast loose too. All my contracts are currently month-to-month.

I live in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. I need a cell phone that provides me with service on the road between ORD and MSP.

Options I have thought about:
Desktop, Netbook, and vanilla cell phone
Notebook and Smartphone
Notebook, iTouch, and vanilla cell phone

I am sure there are countless other possibilities. I am not on a tight budget, but would like the purchases to come in under $3k with a monthly cost of under $150.

Specific brand and model numbers are fine, or general recommendations too.

For all of you that have suggestions, thank you.

I have lots of colleagues who use various BT headsets. I find the outgoing voice quality apalling on most of them. I need a headset to use both in my office and in my car. I would prefer a wireless solution (I would love a in-ear style earbud like my Sennheiser CX300), but outgoing voice quality is the most important factor. I presently use an Sony Ericsson K660i and (quite seldom) voip from my iPod touch, the problem with using a wired headset with that handset is that the clunky connector tends to fall out. Our cell phone choices is very limited by our head office, so a change of phone isn't in the cards at the moment.

I have checked out the Jabra JX 10 Series II and Plantronics Voyager 510 and 520 (only online so far).

Budget: under $150

I am currently in Germany with my unlocked Google Android G1. I purchased an O2 pre-paid sim for 15 Euro, unlimited internet 10 Euro and loaded an additional 15 Euro for incidentals.

I have a SkypeIn number which I forwarded to the new German cell number. All my friends and family can call my Skype number or voice chat me for 11.5 cents per minute! Since all incoming calls are free on the phone, I don't use up my pre-paid minutes.

I use PdaNet and hook my G1 up to my laptop and get 3G internet for no additional charge for my computer!

I use my Gmail account/widget on my phone to access the email to sms gateway on my friends networks. i.e. Verizon 1234567890@vtext.com will send them a text. I don't get charged for the text since it uses the unlimited internet I paid for above. Use @vzwpix.com for MMS picture messages etc. Each network has it's own gateway, search the internet for the proper formatting of the address.

So, for 40 Euro, I have a phone number, a way for my friends to call cheaply, unlimited internet for the phone and my laptop, no sms charges and Google Maps works great here! The satellite view is awesome for getting around!

Cheers!
