Frugal Travel Guy Rookie Bootcamp - Sept 20th - Savannah, GA

Rick (ingy) and I (Howie) are putting on a "Rookie Bootcamp" on September 20th at the Springhill Suites Savannah / Historic District.

It'll be an all day event where we'll be covering the basics about credit / card applications, mileage runs, different types of award bookings and figuring out how to achieve your goals in this game.

Even though its called a Rookie Bootcamp we'll be reviewing more advanced topics and sharing our own experiences.

Registration is open

Some details:

What: FTG Rookie Bootcamp
Where: SpringHill Suites Savannah Downtown/Historic District - Savannah, GA - $159/night rate secured using code FTGS
When: Saturday September 20th 9am – 6pm
Who: Up to 100 people
Cost: $25 per person

Registration includes morning coffee, water/snacks throughout the day, pizza for lunch. We'll be doing a bunch of door prizes as well.

We wanted to do a smaller / focused event where we could actually meet and spend some time with more people individually. While we've got some topics to discuss there isn't yet a set agenda that only specific things will be talked about. Any suggestions on what you want to discuss let me know.

I'm excited to have an event in my home town ... If you haven't been to Savannah the end of the September is a great time to visit, and the location of the event is walkable for everything in the historic district.

We've secured a rate of $159/night at the host hotel for the weekend; simply call and tell them you're with Frugal Travel Guy.

"Smaller in number, hold conversations"...Sure sounds like copying the Saverocity seminars!

Imho, this is yet another way to sell credit cards. Why share the newbs with the other credit card salesmen "expert bloggers" in Chicago when you can have them all to yourselves?

From the website of Frugal Travel Guy's credit card "tool":
"Apply for all 7 cards credit cards on the same day....Because you're married, both you and your spouse should apply for the same cards to receive double the rewards!"

Needless to say I am not signing up for this one

^ glad to have you. Hopefully some people will spend the entire weekend ... as we get closer I'm going to try to get a count of who to see about coordinating an event or two.

I like the low cost; but then again, I like to do things on the cheap on BRT.

Nothing wrong with that TBB. Say what you want about (most/many) of the bloggers, they encourage you to go where no man has gone before. Before anyone gets mad at me, credit where credit is do >> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060028/quotes Even this old dog has learned a few tricks.

We've been to Savannah and had a great time.

I disagree! The advice to go for 7 credit cards at once were, supposedly, for a "rookie traveler" looking only for cash back cards! Go ahead, try the credit card "tool" for yourself.

Added some additional agenda topics:

* Tips on how to get the most out of Priceline and other consolidators
* How to improve your chances of a "bump"
* Why you need to use Autoslash for your car rentals
* How and when you should write letters to customer service

We'll bring our examples, but hope you'll do the same.

Just convinced my partner to attend with me..... so you have another person registered.

Question: Do you know what the parking charge at the hotel will be for people not staying there?
