Paris Metro Tickets on Trains Coming From Germany

Are Paris Metro tickets sold on board the ICE or TGV trains going to Paris from Germany?

A few years ago I was able to purchase Metro tickets on the Eurostar coming from London.

It would be a useful feature to avoid having to stand in line on arrival, especially when making connections to other trains requiring a station transfer.

I take the TGV every Friday from Frankfurt and have never seen any such service.

After a lot of Internet searching, I discovered a page on the DB site that states the following about services on the ICE service to Paris:

Verkauf von Metro-Tickets für die Weiterfahrt in Paris

This translates into "Sale of Metro Tickets for Trip Continuation in Paris".

A brochure, in German, is also attached, and states the same thing.

Now, whether the information is current or not is another thing, but someone at least seems to have thought about the concept!

Yes and also on the Thalys: http://thalys.tgv-europe.de/de/metro-tickets-thalys

"Kaufen Sie die von Ihnen benötigten Fahrkarten für die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel in Paris direkt an Bord. Die Fahrkarten für den Pariser Nahverkehr (Metro, Bus und RER) sind in der Thalys-Bar erhältlich, ohne Aufpreis."

Buy your needed public transport tickets for Paris directly on board. The tickets for local Parisian transport (Metro, Bus and the RER) are available in the Thalys bar without any surcharges.

They can be. But, the point is: why not use free time when you have it?

In my case, it would be Gare De L'est.

The issue is fairly tight schedules. I have 72 minutes between trains arriving at Gare De L'est and departing at Gare d'Austerlitz, in that case the overnight Talgo to Madrid. DB says to allow 40 minutes for transfer time. The raw Metro running time is about 18 minutes.

It's good to have a little extra time cushion. It would be different if I was just arriving in Paris and transfering at leisure to a hotel.

Yes, at least at busy periods. The problem is that unlike an average metro station, most of the people in the lines are visitors who are not so familiar with the machines.

Very useful information here, wouldn't have thought of metro tickets being available on selected trains to Paris.

In a "worst case scenario", at Gare du Nord, if you head to the RER E line area (not heavily used by tourists--except those going to Gare St. Lazare), there should be NO lines at the ticket machines or windows.)

I was on the Thalys last week from Köln to Gare du Nord and they were indeed selling Paris Metro tickets in the bar car.

However, I have never known of such a service on ICE or TGV trains coming from Germany into Gare de L'Est.

I have had the scenario at Gare de Lyon where all the ticket machines were out of order, there was one ticket window open, where a single employee was surrounded by about a dozen others looking over her shoulder.

In the summer holiday season, you can almost be guaranteed there will be long lines at most major train stations for metro tickets, sometimes also for train tickets.

The Frankfurt-Paris TGV now shows a blurb on the screens in the cars about Metro tickets for sale in the bar. They keep adding information to those screens each couple of weeks.
