Any ideas where to find cheaper Bern accomodation?
For Geneva, Gaillard in France is a great trick as it's very cheap and close to the tram into Geneva. Obviously Bern is not close to the border but, I do not know, a train stop or two out of Bern or something? These Swiss cities are really expensive to stay in!

When I visited Bern some years ago, I found the Novotel Bern Expo to be cheap (reasonable). There is also an Ibis in the same building.
It's a bit out of town but there is a tram stop right outside of the hotel, if I remember rightly.
