is Serbia safe for tourist, if there is military conflict between Russia and Ukraine?

I know this is a silly question, but I know absolutely nothing
about Serbia or the region...

is Serbia safe for tourist, if there is military conflict between
Russia and Ukraine? (not just a confrontation, but an actual
shooting war)

time around May or June

thanks!

Why do you think Serbia would not be safe in May or June?
What is your rationale/thinking for asking this question?

interesting question:
- if the situation continues as it is right now, you're safe
- if there's an escalation of tension between Ukraine/Russia or Russia/Moldova - you're still safe in Serbia (there are two NATO countries in between)
- if there's a WW conflict, only few in New Zealand & Polynesia are safe (think RC-12M "Topol" ICBMs).

In other words - pack your bag, come over and enjoy Balkan hospitality!

mfk

You're right. It's a silly question.

And if you are still afraid of travelling to either Serbia or New Zealand, sit in your sofa and watch P. Sellers, P. Sellers and P. Sellers in Kubrick's masterpiece "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"!

It'll only prolong the agony by delaying the inevitable, unless of course, you have a well-stocked and equipped mineshaft.....

General "Buck" Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?

Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

What, exactly, is the concern? I'm not trying to be rude, but have you looked at a map?

OP, if you're really going to Serbia and "know nothing" about it or the region, I'd suggest that you do a little studying up if you're intending to have any substantive conversations wth the local people. As you may (or may not??) know, the recent history of the Balkans has been...shall we say...turbulent, and feelings sometimes run high. This all has nothing to do with the current situation in Ukraine.

Good post. And agreed that it's important for tourists to understand some of the recent history and culture, if for no other reason than to keep themselves out of potential trouble. Understand the long-term history to really enjoy the experience. Understand a little language to have a more authentic experience.

Where are you from, OP? Why did you choose Serbia?

I'm planning a weekend in Serbia right now and haven't even thought about Ukraine. I was looking for side trips from Budapest and my previous interest in the Ukraine has been significantly quelled for the moment.

In terms of safety, there still is apparently sporadic "tensions" along the border with Kosovo. There are sometimes reports of passport entry/exit stamps to Kosovo not being accepted. Unless you plan to travel in this area, things are "generally" safe. From what I've read some minority or LGBT travellers might want to take additional small precautions.

Unless the archduke is assassinated, it shouldn't be a problem.
