Flying on united miles to FCO thru BRU w/ a tight connection

I'm looking to book an award flight with united miles and one of the options has me flying Lax to NYC on UA from NYC through BRU on SN with 50 min layover and then to FCO on SN.. is this a legal connection? Will I have to go through customs at BRU? If i miss my connection will SN book me on the next flight or make us fly standby?

of course they will put you on the next flight, even if it is full. on award flights, i have had them refuse to put me on other alliances, and had to stay overnight.

You will go through imigration at BRU.

You will go through customs at FCO.

Your bags will be checked straight through to your flight to FCO, you will not need to do anything with them at BRU, and so will not see them until FCO.
