Malev's slippery slope

Any white knights likely rescue my Duna points?

As I see it your (only) knight might be the Hungarian government. Or not, given Hungary's dire financial straits.

Probably I won't get this year's matched MA Gold either

Sell to LH may be the only way for MA to survive in some form.

Got to say I liked the line "... (funds available for much less time) if suppliers lose confidence.." Why on earth should they lose confidence ?

That would mean leaving Oneworld, though suspect that would be the least of Malev's worries. If IAG had the funds it would be a better fit but they've just spent a bit on BMI.

Sad news indeed.

What will happen to people holding tickets?

I have a few non-refundable roundtrips with them. What would be the best procedure to go about getting a refund?

If you paid by credit card, your credit card company would probably be the likeliest/easiest although this may depend on the legislation of the country in which your card is issued.

[QUOTE=Xandrios;17943497]What will happen to people holding tickets?/QUOTE]

If Malev is anything like Spanair (stopped flying on Friday night with no prior notice to staff or passengers, and sold tickets for future dates up until the time of closing) then you are probably $OL.

Best of luck, though!

Perhaps someone should start an early-warning thread naming the airlines that are in danger of going under. On the other hand, it would be quite a long list!

Exclamation Malev in bankruptcy

I just learned that MALEV filed for bankruptcy today.

This is the 2nd European airline (Spanair) to go bankrupt in recent weeks.

Not good news however unfortunately the writing was on the wall for this one for a couple of years.
