I know that airports in Europe are widely non smoking, but there a few that have gotten away with having small smoking rooms. Just wondering, i have a transfer in Amsterdam Schiphol and will be unable to leave the transit area, I have read multiple posts that Schiphol does have a smoking room still but then i have read some that say they do not. Can anyone confirm this for me? I have a 2.5 hr connection there before we head to the UK.
Thanks!

I believe that there are smoking areas at AMS and not just in the lounges. Pick up a printed map from one of the info kiosks that youŽll find around the transit area. Here is the online version of the map:
I had also read somewhere that there was a small smoking room in the Transit area. I am able to leave the transit area but my partner is not as she is Filipino and holds only Filipino Citizenship. She can only transfer through Amsterdam. BOO URNS
But unlike the online version the printed map will also list a number of smoking points around the airport !
That's probably because the printed map is out of date.
Smoking in indoor work places was banned in the Netherlands about a year ago. The printed maps are probably more than a year old. KLM gets away with running a smoking lounge by closing it completely for about half an hour every so often so that it can be given a good airing before the cleaners go in.
Slight OT but sort of relevant... I was flying into AMS in 2000, on a NW flight, years after smoking was banned on US airlines... and as we descending into AMS was amused to be told in the pre-recorded Dutch announcement that "roken is nu niet meer toegestaan". It seems that printed/recorded material doesn't get updated quite as often as it should!
"Since January 1st, 2008 smoking is prohibited at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Behind passportcontrol 5 smokingcabins have been built.
The smokingcabins are located at Cafe Amsterdam (lounge 3), behind the ABN-AMRO bank and at Murphy's Irish Pub (both in lounge 2), on the second floor at the D-gates (lounge 1) and at the Holland Casine (located between lounge 2 and 3)."
I was emailed directly by Schiphol Airport. As mentioned above, they have installed quie a few smoking cabins around the airport. I think this is good news for me!
