What happens when 2 class becomes 3?

What happens when 2 class becomes 3?
I've got 4 flights coming up shortly in J, all on 2 class planes.
Having watched what's going where, I see that planes sometimes get swapped out for different models at late notice. I am on EY96 which is normally an A321, but on one day it got swapped for an A345. Similarly A332's get swapped for A333.
Question is what happens to the seats in F that suddenly appear as a result of the changes. Is there a flurry of upgrade e-mails or are they just left empty?

Yes whenever that happens. I always get a upgrade and its system generated. Because One time I asked the gate agent if I can upgrade to F and she replied to me. it's full. So when the gate opened and she scanned my Boarding pass to let me through. I was shocked (so was she). Surprise, surprise you have been upgraded to F.
