got a reply from them, they have now upped it to 15,000 miles with the basic statement that this is our final offer, can post the reply if its ok with FT

Did you contact AA? they may help you with something, after all you paid with your AA miles. You paid for a First Class ticket, with miles, voucher or $$$, it was not free, check if you can star a complain with BBB or DOT, the flight touch US land, which means US rules applies.

I would chase politely for a few days.
Call/ email - escalate to managers. Surely you would have done that.

Next steps - visit corporate page, take note of management board - write them a nice polite email to all the execs. Email ids are note hard to guess.
