Instant upgrade I have found to be cheaper than the other options, though I have found the minimum bid on Bid Upgrade to be equal to the Instant upgrade amount charged.

When you check-in, ask the agent at the desk. I usually first ask if J is full, and it it's not then ask how much it'll cost to get an upgrade to J. I recall it used to be $700 but it's probably a bit more than that now but don't know.

Thanks! I've offered the minimums. Was hoping getting into J on the ORD-AUH would've been cheaper.. Maybe worth cancelling and holding out until the instant?

ORD-AUH: $1200
AUH-JNB - $600

My ORD-AUH leg cleared this morning for a 7:30pm Wednesday flight at the minimum bid, 3.5 days early!

Cograts! If DFW<->AUH upgrades are about the same price, will be very tempted to bid.

I imagine it is. I'm skipping my AUH-ORD leg, all told if the other two legs clear it would be $2700 R/T to JNB in Biz (there is no third class on my flights) which isn't too shabby IMHO.

<$3000 for RT in J would be pretty nice. Assuming AA restores ability to book EY F, I'm really tempted to book EY F AUH-LHR and then something non-BA LHR-DFW or LHR-IAH.

Any chance someone can explain what all these different upgrades are, and how they work? I would be greatly appreciative

I found that you can also access whether you are eligible for upgrade, using this link http://www.etihad.com/en-gb/before-y...rade-yourself/

Although my flights are six months away, it offers the following-

SYD-AUH $1540-2130 AUD
AUH- TXL (codeshare with airberlin) $705-1410 AUD
LHR-AUH $1,145-1800 AUD (+140 airport tax)
AUH-SYD $1140-2310
