I think its possible to go back into their tool and change your offer, if you do it before the deadline.

Havent flown that route with EY , but the business class experience is perfectly acceptable, although I find the IFE offerings sometimes not to my taste.
Does anyone have access, I got rid of EF after the Delta stuff?

Thinking of flying Etihad from LHR to HKG/BKK/SIN/KUL (somewhere in that vague direction) for holiday later in the year.

I've always fancied trying Business class and am keen to get the best deal (aren't we all). Having read back through this post there appear to be 3 options;

1) Buy a business class ticket
2) Bid for an upgrade if you get an invite email
3) Upgrade at the airport

Are options 2 and 3 open to all, or do frequent Etihad flyers get priority?

As a point of reference, a purchased upgrade from Y to J was offered on a recent NRT-AUH flight at the check in counter. The asking price was $950USD or ¥110,000JPY. Pretty reasonable for a 13+ hour flight, and an earlier call to ask for a 'push' upgrade was met with a price of $4,000+.

JFK-AUH Y to J was $700 about a year ago. Last month I was told at the desk that this was $1,400. Not sure if this was due to peak travel time pricing (a few days before Christmas) or if this is the new amount that will be charged for this route to upgrade at check-in.

What's a push upgrade? Is it when you solicit EY for an upgrade instead of waiting for the email asking you to bid for an upgrade?

Yes, exactly.

In this case, an upgrade bid email was never received (J left full, although they were still selling Y-J upgrades at check in).

This will be interesting to see if I'm able to get it. I can handle economy fine but my pops is coming on this trip (60 y/o) and I want to let him fly in first for the first time in his life.

Couple of questions:

1. It seems like (just from observing on this thread) the upgrade price at the airport is typically pretty close to the minimum bid. Is this accurate? Any advice on which one is smarter to go with?

2. Any ideas how to check what the current load of the flight is?

3. Anyone have an idea of what a good min bid would be for ORD-Abu Dhabi? In April.

ORD-AUH min bid $1,190 accepted. Feels weird paying that off a $256 base fare but I'm not complaining
