Great News!!

EK 418 to BKK/SYD/CHC will be upgauged to A380 next year as well....just don`t know when exactly...

WAW and NCE will also get the A380 till years end.

Sadly some flights being axed (LIS, LOS, FCO).....:-(

The previously mentioned service reductions to OSL and LED are seasonal with similar reductions in effect for CGK and LAD. The second daily LAX service will seasonally operate with B77W.

Reductions to FCO and LIS are permanent. Also, the new EK350/351 to BKK will disappear and so BKK will go back to 6 daily with 5 of those A380. Service on DXB SAW will apparently cease rather than reduce.

A340 retirement is being sped up with KBL, KRT and BEY changes to B77W coming earlier now.

BUD will become a 2-class destination as will be the second daily DUB service.

I can't recall any other permanent reductions to European destinations before these (no doubt somebody will now give a huge list!). It's generally been expansion after expansion.

Is this the first sign that EK are beginning to saturate the market?

The second daily VCE was previously terminated for what is likely the very same reason as what is happening to the second Lisbon and third Rome flight. EK has previously make similar moves on routes to CMN, LOS, DAR and EBB in Africa.

I can't help but feel that they are going to end up with a huge number of un-needed aircraft. There's still around 60 A380's to be delivered, plus god knows how many 777s.

Agreed - although many of those A380s are going to replace older frames: luckily for EK the A380s are all leased, so they don't have to worry too much about the, shall we say...uncertain...secondary market for them.

"I can't help but feel that they are going to end up with a huge number of un-needed aircraft."

I don`t think so.....EK must replace 4 A340, 8 A330, 3 777/200ER and 10 777/300.

When this is done, the oldest 777/300ER will leave the fleet....and I believe EK will add some new destinations and increase frequencies to destinations already served....

Yes, but they currently have 245* A380/B777 on order! Plus 70* options...

Hi DYKWIA

That`s true; but Boeing and Airbus will need some years time to deliver all those planes....so, I still think most of them are to replace the old frames and some are for growth....but time will tell us....:-)

Indeed... but I fear that saturation point is near

I reckon the UK market will start to constrict in the next year or so (just a gut feeling). Followed by some other European countries.

Got turned back (VDB) from EK031 to LHR in revenue J today morning, asked to be re-booked on EK3 or EK5 later today or EK29 tomorrow all fully booked even in F. Not sure how they can fill up 9 A380s a day to LON but it seems to be working for them and don't see this over-saturation anytime soon.
