When the runway extension is finished I suspect the lunchtime EK39/40 from BHX to go to A380 - but not straight away, I believe EK have ordered some aircraft with all business upstairs and no first class and will only change once they receive these aircraft.

Can the runway handle an A380 yet? Does BHX have any A380 gates?

The existing runway can handle an A380 to DXB as the distance isn't all that high, the extension is irrelevant (though helpful). The issue is more with taxiways at BHX I believe.
EK19/20 will go A380 first and that won't be before June as things stand.

Okay. I don't want to get into a dick waving exercise here but still, we'll see which flight gets it first shall we?
Taxiways are fine at BHX as was proven in 2009 (long before manchester) when BHX was the first airport outside of London to have a A380 flight.
Reason the runway extension will benefit is warmer weather where the plane needs longer to take off and the A380 won't be viable in those situations without the extension.
I really don't see all the need for this BHX negativity. On another popular airliners website, when Biman Banglandesh announced 777 flights to JFK, there was uproar because manchester airport wasn't chosen. I'm sick of it I really am.

I'm not saying this is the case, but having the odd flight does not make an airport suitable for repeated flights by the same aircraft. Permission to exceed qualified conditions is often given for individual events like anniversaries etc.

There's usually a separate thread for rumours, isn't there?

You must be confusing me with someone else - I couldn't give a monkey's for either place.
The point I made in all good faith about one off flights v regular flights has been given as a reason for EDI not getting B777 services (which I have an interest in), and I brought it up as it may have an effect on whether BHX gets A380 service or not.
Can you comment on that point or do you just want to call me a Manchester loving dick waver again?

380 coming to gatwick from 30th March!!!!. I was trying to book a DXB LGW flight for early April and noted that the 380 was replacing the 777's on EK9&EK10.

I see they have also chartered flights to DUR going out as EK8776 after EK776 goes out. Shows how busy South Africa is becoming with air travel!
