Pier 6 has gates 102-111. A380 gate I think would likely be 110, which was used for the last A380 flights into LGW, iirc.

And is the other A380 gate 111 which is right next to it? According to Google maps, which is probably showing old photography, Gate 110 on the western side of Pier 6 has 3 air bridges which means it can be used for A380s, but the one next to it only has 1 air bridge. Can an A380 use a stand with only one air bridge? The gate next to 110 also does not seem wide enough to hold an A380.

Good news!

Finally a step in the right direction to CPT.

Not sure which other gate would be A380 capable. A380s can even be boarded by stairs - the major considerations are whether there is enough space for the wings, ground power, fuel access, taxiway access, etc. etc. You don't really want a BA at JNB scenario, after all...!

I'm trying to get from North America to Japan and am considering flying F. I understand I have a number of options on the 380 from North America / east coast (JFK, YYZ, etc). What about Japan - which are the best equipment routes? I'm seeing older equipment (777-200?) on NRT/HND/KIX, unless I'm mistaken - this is for Mar2014. Do any of the closed-suite 77Ws fly to Japan or am I out of luck?

Flights to NRT/KIX are operated by 777-300ERs which contain the 8F suite configuration.

The 777-200 that operates to HND is actually the very new 777-200LR which is also fitted with suites.

Oh! My apologies - my bad. So the KIX/NRT ones are closed or open suites? Not that it matters, but just curious as there seem to be a few configs flying around.

It is extremely likely that flying to NRT/KIX you'll get a 777-300ER with the suites with closing doors, yes, barring any last minute equipment swaps.

Hm, I'm attempting to price out DXB-KIX, but I seem to be coming up with a 2-class plane, since no F seats appear to be available anytime within that week, but business is wide open.

Is it possible they're scaling back NRT and KIX to a 2-class 777-300? That's a bit disappointing.

There is only one type of suites; the closed ones.

In addition, so far no changes to flights to Japan (HND/KIX/NRT). All are 3-class 777s

All suites have doors. However, the suites are open from the 'top' - so yes, some one can take a peek inside your suite from the aisle by looking down.
