Actually it happened that my apartment is located opoosite to the entrance to the cable car station lol:-). It meant to be ready for Olympics - but now they are saying that it will be ready for summer 2012 - so they do not want to commit to the specific date. BTW thi is the most expensive cable car in the world apparently - meant to cost £30 mln ended up at £67 mln.

The only way it could have cost more than double is if London employed the same idiots that built the Melbourne ticketing system, called MYKI. We're at A$1.4 billion and counting...

 I read that first as costing £67 to ride on the cable car! Will probably only cost £50 :)

I have heard that it will be possible to earn Skywards miles for journeys on this route.

Can anyone confirm the mileage earned and whether they will be flex or saver miles?

That depends on whether it is peak-time or off-peak

Emirates Air Line takes off

Emirates Air Line becomes UK’s first urban cable car

DUBAI, U.A.E., 28th June 2012: Emirates Air Line, the UK’s first urban cable car, has been launched, bringing a new and innovative way to cross London’s River Thames.

As of today, passengers can take a “flight” up to 90 metres above one of the world’s most famous waterways, capturing dramatic views of the City, Canary Wharf, historic Greenwich, the Thames Barrier and the Olympic Park.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and Emirates Airline President Tim Clark joined Peter Hendy CBE, London’s Transport Commissioner, on the first official Emirates Air Line flight this morning.
