Thanks. An article just appeared in the local newspaper in Reunion Island too.
No info on the emirates site though which is a little worrying. Does anyone know which days the 2 extra flights are supposed to run on?
Interesting routing structure considering getting 5th freedom rights on the Sydney-Los Angeles-Sydney sector would be a tough task considering how rigid the Australian Government has been to SQ's request. Emirates should consider Dubai-Hong Kong-Los Angeles-London-Dubai instead for its RTW flight as obtaining 5th freedom rights on the HKG/LAX/HKG sector would surely be easier compared to SYD-LAX-SYD. In addition, only Cathay Pacific flies this route where as on SYD-LAX one has to compete with V Australia, Delta, Qantas and United.
right emirates 777, can you pass on that nice suggestion to commercial dept at emirates. dxb-hkg-lax-lhr-dxb sounds good. all ek has to do is route it thru sin (perhaps dxb-sin-hkg-lax-lhr-dxb and dxb-lhr-lax-hkg-sin-dxb) daily could be done, then all the ek flights have to do is connect with the mel-sin-dxb or bne-sin-dxb flight to get RTW from south Australia working!
As per Emirates booking engine, Dubai - Venice service on 07 Jun 2009 will be operated by Boeing 777-300 instead of the usual Airbus A330-200.
Any reason for that? I would say it is not the 1st time for EK to have overbooked flights on certain dates, not a good enough reason to change aircraft from an A-332 (2 classes/278 seats) to a really larger 77W (2 classes/442 seats).
Anyone know if there are plans to u/g the route in the future?

It's overbooked by 25 in Y and full in J, and that's still weeks away, so the load is likely to go up. That's probably the reason from the switch. Plus the pilot/cabin crew roster is not out for June yet, so you can crew the change ahead of time.
Also, I'm sure there's a corresponding trip that the 77W was operating that has a light load that day, and the A332 will operate instead.

Some more changes to the 2009/10 operating plan. The following are in addition to the 2x weekly extra MRU flights.
The planned increase to Khartoum (KRT) from Daily to 10x weekly will not go ahead. The planned new flights EK731/732 (3x weekly) will not operate.
Effective 1 July, 3x additional weekly flights to Male (MLE) and Colombo (CMB). Flights operate 3x weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a triangle routing using A330-200 in a 3 class config. Flight details:
EK654 DEP DXB 1020 ARR MLE 1525
EK654 DEP MLE 1650 ARR CMB 1850
EK654 DEP CMB 2015 ARR DXB 2300
As a result of these additional flights, MLE will increase from 11x weekly to Double Daily, while CMB will increase from 15x weekly to 18x weekly, and effective 1 Feb 2010, CMB will increase to Triple Daily.

Another update re 2009/10 operating plan.
EK791/792 DXB-LAD-DXB will now commence 3x weekly (Tue, Thu, Sun) operations on 2 August with B77W aircraft instead of the A332. It will be a 3-class aircraft with SkyCruiser seats in F and deep reclining seats in J.
To accomodate this change, there are some other minor aircraft changes:
EK049/050 DXB-MUC-DXB will operate with B773 aircraft instead of B77W on Tue, Thu, Sun.
EK105/106 DXB-ATH-DXB will operate with A332 aircraft instead of B773 on Tue, Thu, Sun.
First A-380 operation to Rome has been changed once again (originally planned Dec 1st, 09 then delayed to Jan 1st, 10 and finally anticipated to Dec 2nd, 09).
Seems like EK plans to serve now DXB-FCO route with a mix of 77W(3xw)/380(4xw) for the 1st month (Dec09). It will become daily 380 eff from Jan 1st, 10.
