Meanwhile, she added, Emirates’ Dubai-Durban service was “definitely back on the cards for 2009” after its December 1, 2008 launch was deferred because of lack of equipment and schedule changes linked to the late delivery of Emirates’ new A380 aircraft on the Los Angeles and san Francisco routes.
when will dxb-dur be announced for 2009? I'll be one of the early bkkings!
not before i get my ticket, i was so dissapointed when they cancelled the route as i already had my ticket for inaugural flight out of durbs, now I have to transit through JNB

so where's the update for 2009/2010? we're all waitin' for it with bated breath!
what's feasibility of dxb-ord, dxb-sin-dps, dxb-dur?
BVMS,
I have not received my update yet, so nothing new to report.
PNQ depends heavily on runway being able to handle wide-bodies. I recall they were working on upgrading facilities so am not sure whether that work is finished. I suspect that once this is done, Emirates will likely get approval.
Emirates has indicated that 2009/10 will largely feature additional frequencies on existing routes, but i think we will see a couple of new destinations. I do know more frequencies will be added into India and i suspect one of the new destinations will be there.
How come Emirates has never considered flying to KTM-Kathmandu which is a very profitable destination for QR and GF! Both of these airlines fly wide bodied A 332s / A 343s to KTM which EK too can easily do, so what seems to be EK's problem with KTM?
Etihad too has done well for itself in the short time that it has entered the KTM market.

Perhaps an EK service to KTM would be overkill since 3 other airlines serve the city nonstop to the ME and offer more or less the same onward connections? EK could contemplate serving KTM only if a) the market grows enough to sustain demand b) EK offers KTM with something new such as a stop in India, or if the flight continues onto somewhere else.
PS-Air Arabia serves KTM as well. This is more O&D since Air Arabia isn't a legacy carrier and doesn't offer onward connections to Europe/Africa etc.

Any news regarding the 2009 expansion plans - it has been quite about this for some time now...
Will the current worldwide financial crisis have any effect on the planed expansion for 2009 or will EK just continue as planned - oil prices are low but demand is also weaker.

Daily to LAX and SFO?
Thanks Emirates777.
Do you know when LAX-DXB, and SFO-DXB are expected to become daily flights? I am assuming the current schedule (which I was surprised was not a daily) is due to lack of more 777-200LR's. Is making these sectors a daily a high priority for 2009?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that both SFO and LAX will also move to daily in May 2009 once the additional B777-200LRs are available. Also EK412/413 DXB-SYD-AKL-SYD-DXB will move to a daily A380 operation. And the 2nd daily ATH service will also come into effect from April 2009. These were supposed to be implemented during the Winter 2008 schedule but have slipped/deferred due to delays in deliveries of both A380 and B777s.
Emirates got 810 slots for AMS in the Summer 09-season. Historicly they had 420.
So they almost doubled. Are there some plans to add a DXB-AMS pax flight or is it for cargo?
Has the 10th 777-200LR been determined where it will fly? I remember an earlier post you mentioned the first nine 77Ls were allocated, but not the 10th. You mentioned possible frequency increases to South America or Houston were being discussed. Just wondering if there's an update.
