I was speaking to someone at Emirates today and from what I understand due to aircraft shortages is to only have one flight to JHB and switch the other 2 to Cape Town and Durban thus freeing one aircraft ( the one flying the current CT-DBX route) as CPT will still have one frequency a day and not 2.
JNB has 3 flights daily at the moment and from myself living in Durban i know that there are lots of passengers connecting in JNB to fly to DXB since DUR doesnt have any international flights outside of africa, this way the DUR passengers wont have too fly to JNB anymore thus the reason for removing 1 flight from JNB and allocating it to DUR. But I know that demand from JNB is high so losing that 1 daily flight is a bit perplexing to me
DUR can only manage an A332 with its runway so it wont be able to handle 77w, untill the new airport is finished come 2010 when it can handle any aircraft

Extra 31 weekly flights for India by Feb 2009
Quote:
New Delhi, Oct. 20 Dubai-based Emirates airlines is to expand its operations here by adding five more flights each to Bangalore and Chennai apart from operating three-more-flights-a-week to Hyderabad.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the airline’s Vice-President (India and Nepal), Mr Orhan Abbas, said that the launch of these flights is part of Emirates’ plans to operate 31 additional weekly flights to India.
“All the flights will be in place by February next year and will see Emirates operate 163 weekly flights from here. This is the second round of expansion in India. We are bullish on India; it is a powerhouse for us,” Mr Abbas said.

In a perfect world, Emirates Airline would be able to offer a daily flight to Calgary in about six months' time.
But with little success thus far in convincing Transport Canada to expand the Dubai-based airline's presence in Canada beyond the three flights per week currently permitted -- which all go to Toronto -- Emirates instead took its business case to a blue-chip crowd at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
YYC (Calgary) would be within A340 range, the 77L and possibly 777-300ERs. Although it sounds like a far fetched idea, I believe that EK would actually do it. No Asian carrier serves YYC so EK would be able to create a market for themselves. Perhaps routed via an Asian city?

No way via an Asian city as this would be a massive detour.
DXB-YYC is 7,134 miles
DXB-ICN-YYC (for example as this would be the shortest route via a major city in the Far East) is 9,510 miles.
The only city which is on the way to YYC (the direct DXB-YYC route takes it over the North Pole) is Moscow.
DXB-DME-YYC is 7,179 miles, and the direct DXB-YYC would fly overhead Moscow.
So IF Calgary is served from DXB it would either be non-stop with an A340-500 or via Moscow (which is not out of the question only if the can get 5th freedom rights for DME-YYC) due to the oil link.

Since JNB is mentioned quite a bit on this thread. Must say, that I flew JNB-DBX on F on October 11th. The check in staff at JNB were down right either rude or under-trained. Not the appropriate way to treat a passenger let alone a Gold Card member. I did state several times, that my in-coming flight was delayed and hence the late check-in (still an hour to go) and they were extremely rude and fussy .......... Yet, I was still amongst the first people to board the airplane.
I wonder if EK would be able to justify a nonstop to YYC. Frequencies would be low by EK standards, perhaps 3x weekly. DXB-DME-YYC would be similar to SQ's SIN-DME-IAH. Wonder how that is doing.
KE's service is seasonal in the summer, and I believe that they are mostly charter (I could be wrong-not showing on my Skyteam timetable).
In regard to safari_7-more and more EK check-in staff outside DXB are like that. Not always rude/snappish but definately incompetent and sloppy with little information on hand. I once checked in online for a flight only to have the check-in agent tell me I wasn't on 'the list' and that my 'ticket' (online checkin reciept) wasn't valid. (I did convince him to check again though).

Flew out of JNB on October 9th F class check in had 3 girls talking amongst themselves. Asked if they could check me in and was told F was not open and told me to check in on the economy line. There were around 15 - 20 people in the line. I asked why i could not check in at the designated counter that was showing it was open. Was told that unlike me most F class pax do not arrive 3 hours before the flight departure. Again was told to go to the economy check in. Service with a smile was no existent .
Any news on a Chicago - Dubai non stop? It doesn't make sense that Emirates doesnt have a non stop to Chicago. Considering it is one of the busiest aiports in the world and there are a lot of pax in chicago that would fly to Dubai. I would rather fly to Dubai and make a connecting flight to Bangalore or Hyderabad. Than connect in Delhi, Mumbai, or Europe.

ORD IAD and MIA make sense. I am not sure YUL, YVR or YYC would be profitable. Perhaps YUL but they already go to YYZ.
