Most likely the next US destination to be announced since Qatar Airways fly DOH-IAD & United fly IAD-KWI & soon IAD-DXB. B777-300ER would make far more sense. It's well within range of the -300ER & the smaller -200LR can be used for something more capable.
Only problem is when B777-300ERs become available, given 2 would be needed to maintain a daily service. The A380's should be displacing both B77Ws & A340-500s on a one for one basis, but given their delays & the Boeing strike it could be very late 2009/2010, not forgetting that Emirates want to expand in other areas too.
Excited to see CPH back on the EK expansion list! But will it happen in 2009 - so any updated news regarding CPH from our inside Emirates guys?
As we all know the announced EK service to CPH was cancelled in 2006. Since then SAS has entered the market with success (3x weekly from CPH during the winter months) and in my opinion there is definitely also a market for EK. I cross my fingers that we very soon will se EK online at CPH.
No one with further info (they are able to share in public)?
Hope some of you will keep me/us updated about the possible CPH route when and if further information becomes available - thanks.
Guys been on Leave so back in good old Dubai now.
GRU! Next year…345…Is happening…..Its even on the EK staff portal.
Thanks for the confirmation of the second daily GRU flight.
Do you have any idea about the schedule of this flight? Currently EK departs DXB in the morning arriving in GRU in the afternoon, the aircraft then rests for about 8h and returns from GRU to DXB at about 1am. Can we expect a late evening departure from DXB to GRU allowing for a new set of connections?

Tks,
Jet Boy meantioned that the 2nd daily service would be a same plane A340-500 from NGO. Currently, a same plane service from NGO to GRU via DXB would effectively shadow the current flight. Am I right in thinking that a 2nd daily GRU flight would be at different times, but perhaps operated by the current B777-200LR if a same plane service is to be used from NGO.
one would be naive to believe this 2nd GRU until one see it in the system or Emirates777 posts it.
It seems all but certain that the second GRU flight will operate in 2009.
I think that the A345 will replace the current B772LR which will therefore be shifted to operate in a different time-schedule with an evening departure from DXB. I do not think it makes sense to operate both flights with similar timetable.

Rgs,
Doesn't the current GRU plane continue to the Far East anyway? PEK? A retimed arrival might allow the B777-200LR to do something in Europe perhaps if the 2nd daily flight is to follow the pattern on 2nd daily JFK flights...?

Emirates won’t axe Cape Town [Return to News Front Page]

Emirates has denied online rumours that it is considering cancelling or scaling down its daily service between Cape Town and Dubai because the route is not profitable.
“That is not true at all. We definitely are not planning to cancel the service,” said Anja Meadon, Emirates’ sales manager for the Cape. She said Emirates’ new senior vp for Africa, West Asia and India, Salem Obaidalla, had visited Cape Town recently and had given his assurances that the airline would continue to operate daily frequencies to Cape Town.
UAE investment in SA
She also pointed out that as an official carrier for the Fifa World Cup 2010, Emirates had an agreement with Fifa to service certain destinations in South Africa, and Cape Town was one of them. In addition, the UAE was investing heavily in South Africa and in Cape Town particularly, while both countries maintained close political and trade relations.
However, Anja acknowledged the route had not performed as well as expected. She believed this was due to many cancellations received because of the xenophobic violence that had plagued South Africa earlier this year and which had been widely reported in the UAE. Bookings were expected to pick up again as the political situation stabilised and was reported positively in the UAE, she said. “We are convinced the route will perform 100% better next year.” She said.
Meanwhile, she added, Emirates’ Dubai-Durban service was “definitely back on the cards for 2009” after its December 1, 2008 launch was deferred because of lack of equipment and schedule changes linked to the late delivery of Emirates’ new A380 aircraft on the Los Angeles and san Francisco routes.
