El al considering eliminating first class

Yup. You read that right. So far only available in Hebrew news:
http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-4953668,00.html

Basically Elal is gearing up to accept 16 Boeing 787s (1st one arriving Aug 2017) and they are considering eliminating FC and making an economy premium class (Business class seats w/ Economy service) between rows 17-20 and would include 28 seats.

In a different thread, it seemed that LY already has the seating arrangement for the 787. Ynet indicates that LY doesn't know what's flying

shocked, just shocked!

Premium Y wouldn't be "business class" seats, in the lie-flat sense, just bigger like AC does. Israeli journalism at its finest...

No surprise re First class, and we've been saying it here for ages.

Typical Israeli journalism re Premium Economy (or as they called it, Economy Premium...)

With LY, I really think that's a possibility. Especially when you consider that the Ynet report indicates exactly that

Well looks like they'll be removing F from some of the 777 routes from W17.
First to go will be the EWR flights from end of October, then LHR from 1st of November and HKG from March.

Knowing LY, my guess is that the reason LY isn't selling F on these routes is not that F is being removed from 777 at that time, but that the routes will be operated by 787 instead (without F), at least some days of the week.

This timeline (Oct/Nov 2017) works with the need to free up one 777 to start MIA.

One possibility is that the 777 that normally operates the day 7/2/4 EWR flight and day 1/3 LHR flight will operate 7/2/4 MIA instead.

Let's see when LY starts filing routes with 787 equipment!

Not possible my friend , airlines and seat manufactures require over a year to finalize configurations .

That's one possible scenario , the other option is that all 777 will not be retrofitted with First Class after they get the new seats like in 787 (confirned - including IFE)
I have a feeling they might go 10 across in Y . I'll try to find out if it's true

Since the F seats are essentially the same as the C seats on the 777 (and 744) - my guess is they'll just keep the F seats and remove the wall between the F and C cabins, or maybe not even that, and just sell the whole think as C.
Also, don't expect them to switch out the seats in C on the 777 to match the 787.

Shocking....people aren't running to pay for first class seats that are using a business class hard product that other airlines stopped using a decade ago
