Outbound Calling For Upgrades

For the second time in the last few weeks I got a call today from El Al asking if I wanted to pay to upgrade my seat on my upcoming flight. Frankly, I find this annoying - if I wanted to upgrade, I'd call them and I told them to stop calling me.

Anyone else getting this sort of call? Wouldn't email be more effective? Is anyone dumb enough to say yes to this?

How much are they asking for? Is the ticket booked in YSM?

That's complicated. Although I was Platinum last year and received a Gold card in the mail they somehow manually downgraded me to Silver in the computer because they decided I didn't fly enough last year (great loyalty program which will encourage me to be more loyal - not!).

I didn't bother asking even how much they were as I wasn't going to pay for them.

Tickets are on cheap economy fares. In fact, in this particular case, I'm not even flying LY anymore as it would have cost me more to change my ticket than to buy another one on another airline.

Other than the arguable use of resources, this isn't much different than the proactive upgrades BA (and others) offer shortly before a flight.

BA don't call, hence sds1493's reference to resources but they do offer upgrades online in manage my booking. Doesn't work though if you have a multiple-sectors booking, hence I have never had it either.

Many airlines offer this (AA, DL, UA for sure) online. I've never seen an airline call though for an upgrade that hadn't been initially requested
