Outstanding mileage bargains with UP

UP (a low cost subsidiary of EL AL) changed their miles redemption rates for flights to/from EU and TLV:

without EL AL's credit card:
TLV-LCA: 30 points + 21$ per one way and v.v
TLV-BUD: 30 points + 21$ per one way and v.v
TLV-PRG: 75 points + 32$ per one way and v.v
TLV-KBP: 80 points + 32$ per one way and v.v
TLV-SXF: 80 points + 32$ per one way and v.v

With EL AL's credit card:
TLV-LCA: 25 points + 21$ per one way and v.v
TLV-BUD: 25 points + 21$ per one way and v.v
TLV-PRG: 60 points + 32$ per one way and v.v
TLV-KBP: 60 points + 32$ per one way and v.v
TLV-SXF: 60 points + 32$ per one way and v.v

Valid from 1/1/15-24/3/15 and 1/11/15-31/12/15!!
other dates available at a higher cost, worth booking for next DEC holidays.

check out the following link for details (Hebrew only)

Cheap fares indeed, but where exactly do you see this is a sale?

Seems like their new updated rates to me...

Clubman is correct. This is not a sale - it's simply the new 'winter prices'.

UP awards seems cheap because they require a low number points, but, LY add fuel surcharge which, in many cases, makes points redemption not worthwhile. Though it's worth noting that awards are flexible (60$ cancellation fee?) and so it makes sense to use points for speculative bookings during high season.

Also, UP awards are fantastic for LY elites as they get many benefits. Basically they get UP Smart on awards for free - which I believe is actually one of the best benefits for LY elites out there.

Looking at some dates prices are decent but not outstanding.

Winter award to Larnaca: $112 + 60 points roundtrip
Paid ticket: around $140 (more expensive in the weekends but there is no award availability)

Budapest winter: $115 + 60 points r/t (some weekend availability)
Paid: between $140 (December) and $250

Larnaca summer: $112 + 160 points
Paid (comparable dates for which awards are available): between $160 and $220

My mistake, not a sale indeed, but I still think its a good deal if you need flexibility with your ticket, award tickets are much more flexible then the regular UP or discounted airlines on these routes. In addition if you have high status with LY then you get all the perks like premium economy, baggage, lounge access etc..
