My son was supposed to be on it - they didn't say why at TLV...but since he was at the front of the line when the announcement came to his phone, he switched to LY 027. {Proud Papa...taught his teenager how to cope with IRROPS!}

TLC-CDG this morning

LY 319 to CDG (B737) was delayed this morning due to a technical fault with cockpit warning system.
Shortly after the one and a half hour delayed takeoff, the issue reoccurred, and the aircraft dumped fuel and returned to TLV...

LY2365 TLV BUD on 24/Feb

LY2365 TLV BUD (UP) on 24/Feb was delayed due to a hydraulic leak after boarding. Quite a good recovery actually - switched us to a Sun Dor plane, and we were less than 2 hours late.

All my news apps were going haywire with this emergency landing. Didn't watch it though

What I don't get is if the problem was with the tire, why did they need to turn back - if they anyways have to do an emergency landing but the flight won't be affected, why not continue to the destination and do the emergency landing there?

Because by that time maybe more pieces of the tire will have come off.

Judging from the response, I suspect they found more than just pieces of tyre on the runway, or perhaps pieces from more than one tyre.

Why they chose to fly back more than 1 hour, it indeed suprising. They were about nearly half way there. LY seems to always prefer returning to TLV for maintenance for some reason

They don't have spares at outstations, so they would have to fly them in later, involving even more delays.

737-800 spares are pretty widely available, and all airlines have agreements to borrow/swap etc.

I heard that Netanyahu's son was on the flight, and that was the reason.

On the radio they said failure of the de-icing system, not the engine. Apparently the malfunction was showing before departure and they tried to fix it, I guess not too successfully.
