I'm not personally interested in solving all the woes of the airline, just in helping those of us who participate in FlyerTalk to get a bit of responsiveness and participating.

The Serenity Prayer may be appropriate here as we are miles and points addicts.

"G-d, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference."

The problem goes all the way up to the top, to Mrs. Borowich, who's sole purpose is to to milk whatever she can out of the company, here and now, and who couldn't give a damn about the long term, brand building or customer relationships.

So why do we all still keep flying El Al?
Good question.
Latus,

I actually know for a fact that the problems are not with these people from Matmid you mention nor even Shkedy despite the fact that he's clearly not the right man for this job. Believe it or not, the problem is not even with Mrs. Borovich. She actually cares about the company and wants to see it survive. It is her brother in law, Izzy, and his lackey Haim Romano, who milked the company, but those two are gone. In fact, this milking caused a major feud in the Borovich family to the point where Izzy sold his interest in the airline just for a chance at reconciliation.

The real problem today lies with the plethora of VP's and senior managers, such as Danny Saadon, who have been held over from the state owned era. They are the ones now that are milking the company (through their large salaries and 'extras') and really run the show. They are also the ones who feed information to Mrs. Borovich. When I was in Danny Saadons office, Mrs. Borovich called him twice asking him for information. Unfortunately for her, she erroneously believes that just because people, such as these VP's, know EL AL inside out, they also know the airline industry and understand the global economy at large. I've communicated this error in her thinking directly to her.

Hi Everyone.
We want to take the opportunity and thank everyone who came to the meeting.

As a result of the meeting, we learned a lot about the unique dynamics of the FT forum and we believe that we have a better understanding of how provide a better customer experience to the members of the forum.

Although it is true that we put great resources on the FB platform, with the feedback received we are working on expanding our operations to the FT as well, to best accommodate all of our customers.

Building our presence on the FT will obviously take us a while but for starters we plan to start engage in conversations with the frequent flyers on the forum and answer all the issues brought to our attention in a timely manner. After we have a better understanding of the platform we hope that in the near future we will be able to provide a better experience for all.

Sincerely,
Liat Kaplan

Thanks Liat, we look forward to that.

ELAL has some serious structural problems. I hope that the recent investment by Fimi group will move things forward. I would like to say that from my interaction with Mrs. Borovich ELAL's interest and the interest of ELAL customers were always top of mind in all our conversation.

Your website made me chuckle because it had El Al on the second page of airlines. Ahead of BA, TK, QF, AF, EK etc.

Jonathan,

I have absolutely no doubt that Tami Borovich wants EL AL to survive and thrive and she perhaps spends many sleepless nights pondering the situation.

The problem for her is that she is listening to the advice of veteran EL AL VP's and managers, such as Danny Saadon, who were held over from the state owned era and know very little of the airline industry and global economy. She can have all the concern and desire in the world, but if she relies on the advice of people who are ill served to dispense such, the results are bound to be what they currently are.

The fact that hundreds of millions of people use FB says little for it's privacy protection or lack of it there of. Most people on FB probably don't have a clue about digital privacy and those that do probably make an educated decision that it's worth being on FB despite any real or perceived downsides.

As social media has become a underlying fabric of modern society, FB - being the no. 1 social website for now - deserves a lot of corporate attention. My company and many people I work with do a lot on FB. On a personal level I don't use it and don't intend to because it would be too much of a time waster. I also educate my family that do use it on how to be aware and careful of privacy issues. Some of the information people post beggars belief.

In any case, not everyone uses FB and specialised websites frequented by "addicts" such as FT are often as important if not more important than a website such as FB for corporate social media efforts.

Sorry I could not make the meeting. Hopefully next time.

I hope so too. I visit the LY forum on FT rarely because I hardly fly with LY nowadays. If LY came even close to what BA offers its loyal customers and does for them it would be a big step in the right direction.
