Israeli law makes airlines compensate passengers for changing flight times

Law will apply for changes made less then 2 weeks before a flight.
Flights delayed or brought forward with a change of 5-8 hours: Passengers will have the option to decide not to fly, and get a full refund.
More then 8 hours: Passengers entitled to compensation between 1250 - 3000 NIS.
I wonder how these laws compare with European laws?

Any move in that direction is a welcome attitude shift.
Collecting from the airlines after a service failure is too often a pain in the neck. Hopefully, Israel does better than Europe in this regard.

I like the overbooking part. While LY has always been generous with their overbooking policy, others, not so much. I'm sick and tired of checking in for UA, to be told that they're overbooked, and I can get bumped and take $300 credit. I've seen IDBs get flight credit and nothing more, not even transportation to a hotel! This is a welcome improvement!
(And on the politics side, it was nice to see Tibi and Ben-Ari get along for this one!)

it will be interesting to see how this plays out...
They had to have something in place b/c of the Open Skies deals with the EU.
But at the same time, how many strikes take place every year at the airport delaying flights or canceling flights? That will be very costly for the airlines.
And it will force the Gov't's hand to always cave into whatever demands, because how will the airlines pay for all these delay costs every few months?
So yes, a win for the consumer, and the Histadrut.
