But I have NEVER understood people who claim McD's fries as their favorites. That just makes no sense whatsoever. They're scrawny, way too salty, and taste like they're made from fake potatoes (i.e. completely flavorless).
MCD fries are bionic at this point - more chemical than actual potato. The INO fries are pure, unadulterated potato with a light dusting of salt after a quick cooking bath in oil.
If they taste bland, it's probably because our taste buds have been thrown out of whack by MCD, BK and the like - and their engineered flavors, chemicals and other undisclosed alterations.

Agree.
I do find INO's a bit bland, but not because I'm used to fast-food fries (I rarely, if ever, eat any of them). Instead, I prefer big, meaty steak fries cooked very well done and with lots of seasonings (but not salt) on them. INO's taste very fresh and clean but are also very small and plain. They are vastly superior to any of the international fast-food chains but still not quite to my taste.
Still, when I'm at an INO, I do order a side of fries. I've done it animal style and well-done in the past, and that's not bad, though I find that to be a bit too saucy for my taste, and I'd still like more seasonings.
I still think McDs fries are the best of the major chains, but that isn't saying much. My local drive-in(an ex-A&W that still has car-hop service) makes fries that are among the best I've ever tasted, and burgers that are the same style as In-N-Out, but better.

Fake potatoes or not, for some reason I love McD's fries and don't really like any other fast food chain fries, although certain McD's are better than others. Oddly I find that the fries of certain McD's that don't take credit cards are better than of those that don't. I know. I eat too many fries at McDonald's, and also put too much thought into it.
In 'n Out's fries I mainly dislike because of the texture. But I am highly impressed with their potato-to-fry maker.
