There are 3 In and Outs in San Diego but there are more in the surrounding areas. Stay away from Whataburger YUCK.... Enjoy

Update and review to follow. tee hee
Grew up in San Diego, we didn't get a In-N-Out until the early 90s, when they opened the first one. Before that my buddies and I would drive up to Mission Vijeo to go surfing then eat at In-n-Out.... Then in 97 moved to Phoenix, again no In-n-Out but I would fly home see the parental units and get my fix. Well today there are about 10 In-n-Outs iin the greater Phoenix area but don't eat much at In-N-Out (about once a month) but in next year moving to Tulsa, sigh..... No In-N-Out there....
Yes, In-n-out burgers really are that good. It was a life-changing experience the first time I had them in college.
As for the fries, get them well done and animal style and then they are awesome too (if a bit artery clogging).
White castle and Five Guys are no comparison. I don't know why everybody likes Five Guys so much, the mushrooms they use on their burgers are straight out of a can! And the burgers are served in foil.
I can't wait to move back to California. In-n-out being one of the more major reasons of course.
Being as there is no standard as to what "that good" is, I can't possibly see a consensus that would do the question any service.
Even if there were a standard of "that good," taste being what it is, the fact that a majority of other people like something is at best a weak correlation to whether any given person will like it.
Which is why "thumbs up, thumbs down" reviews don't help much in the absence of some sense of whether the reviewer has similar taste - works with your close friends, not so much with strangers. An OK review for unknown people gives a sense not just of whether you liked a place but why; a really GOOD one lets people get a sense of whether they'd like it or not independent of the reviewer's taste.

Is anyone is ready for a throw down 5 Guys vs. In N Out? I have found a city that features both chains. St. George, Utah (SGU) features both of thm within 2 miles of each other on River Road. Located 90 minutes north of Las Vegas, both chains do a brisk business. If you want to compare them side by side, this is the place to do it.
I've been in Afghanistan for over 7 months already; at this point, I would die for an In-N-Out double double animal style, vanilla shake and fries . You really don't appreciate the good things in life until they are taken away. In fact, the first thing I do when I land at LAX is to go to an In-N-Out, lol.

Sounds interesting... And delicious
Guess there's some interesting geology in the area
I rather like the burger in the 'In and Out' in London (the common name for the Naval and Military Club, now in St. James's Square but previously on Piccadilly in the large white building at the Park Lane end with the two entrances labelled IN and OUT - hence the soubriquet created by cabbies).

Completely different. In-N-Out is a West Coast American privately-owned chain of burger restaurants.
I think In 'n Out is overrated. I really dislike their "special sauce", and always ask for ketchup/mustard instead. Their fries are just meh - but my favorite fries are McDonalds. Their milkshakes can't be beat though, and all the employees seem to be having a good time.

I'll agree that INO's fries are "just meh," though less gross than most other fast-food fries.
But I have NEVER understood people who claim McD's fries as their favorites. That just makes no sense whatsoever. They're scrawny, way too salty, and taste like they're made from fake potatoes (i.e. completely flavorless).

It is impressive how they are cut right there from real potatoes... and if you get them well done, are decent (and especially animal style )
